Distorted Screen The screen on our television is stretched very strangely like a mirror from a funhouse. It starts off small in the middle and gets very stretched out on the edges. I can't find anything on the remote that changes the dimension. Any ideas?

Projection TV sets have several common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

Symptoms:

• Screen Looks 3D
• Colors wont align
• Screen may look distorted
• No Audio/Video - TV makes a chirping sound.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid has clouded over. Symtoms

• White looking video

it is called pincushion circuit. either the diode went bad, the capacitors, or just maybe a simple solderond the bad connections.

You should get the vertical IC checked starting with checking the supply voltage on it. This is a small flat IC attached to a heat sink with about 9-11 pins. This tv model should carry an LA7837 or an equivalent IC. If supply is present, check with means of a magnifying glass for dry solder joints on it. Resolder the pins on this IC if necessary and should work out fine. Model tends to suffer from this problem.

Make sure no one pushed the front screens in a little. That will cause exactly what you have. I've seen cases like this where someone would move there set with one had pushing on the front screen and dis-lodging them creating that problem... Hope this helps.

Try moving a medium powered magnet (not one for picking up heavy objects and not a refrigerator holding one) over the distorted area. If that doesn't work, try a more powerful one. This worked for my Toshiba LCD. Good luck!

The problem is likely with your seine board or another video board. It will have distorted video/colors and you will see copies of the image in random sizes/places around the screen. If the toshiba menu is distorted it is in later stages of video, if not then earlier. More info will narrow down exacly which board. You can try reseating the LVDS cable, the computer looking one in the middle of the tv. It goes from the video board to the light engine. Unplug the tv and take off the back. The cable is usually white and has a D-type computer like connector with buttons or screws to unlock.

In most of the case, the problem is a defective LCD panel, if is it, there is not worth to fix.
