I have a Samsung 61' DLP that is 5 years old. It started turning itself off and then back on, meaning the picture would go black and the green light would turn red, which indicates TV was off, and then would turn itself off again. This would happen several times in a row and then it would not happen for weeks. Eventually it became more consistent as a problem and finally went black and the green light that says "lamp" and the other word to the left of that would be lit and no picture and you could not turn the TV off. Would have to unplug. I ordered a new lamp and replaced the old, very carefully following all instructions. When we reconnected the TV it worked for maybe 5 minutes and then began to make a strange noise and went off. Waited another day and tried again and it worked for about 5 minutes and then same problem. Could it be the bulb or is it more serious? Thanks for your help.
The only other thing inside your set that would cause this is the colour wheel has started to fail.
The bearings wear out over time, and the wheel spins around 9000rpm. If the sensor detects the wheel not spinning at the correct speed, it will shut the rest of the unit off to protect itself.
Normally one of the segments on the wheel will fall off, then shatter the rest of it into thousands of bits.
The wheel itself is made from very thin segments of tinted glass.
