hi lea, does this dots and lines appears occasionally or it just stays there? because if its permanently there, then you might need to replace the lcd part of the lower screen (not the touch screen part) but if its occasionally, then try to see if it happens when your on the lowest brightness or highest brightness, if it is then you will have to adjust the variable resistor on the motherboard of the DS,let me know if you have to do this.
The issue is a defective optics block and is not replaceable by the average consumer. Look for any warping on the lamp door as you may fall under an extended warranty by Sony..
This is a failure in the light engine itself. Check to see if the lamp access door is warping first. If it is you may qualify for a repair under Sony extended coverage on these sets because of a faulty design. Go to the following web page for further details.
