Sony KDF-50E2000 50" HDTV Logo

Sony KDF50E2000 lcd tv has burned out it's second bulb. Replacement bulb was OSRAM brand. It only lasted 10 months, now it won't come on. Should I be looking at the ballast or did I just get a poor replacement lamp. Original lamp lasted about 2 years. Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Hi,Osram lamps average around 3000-4000 hrs.Normally 1 -1 1/2 yr.I do think the lamp went out.The ballast is a possibility, when it's going bad it will make clicking noises or attempts to light the bulb.I recommend to get the Original Philips lamp for they average 6000-8000 hrs 3-4 yrs.

I have a Mitsubishi 60inch 60737 replaced the bulb last month.now it keeps cutting off, cleaned the filter before.someone said to reset bulb timer, how do I reset it.

The Lamp timer will not cause it to shut down. The timer should have been reset when you first turned the TV on after replacing the bulb. Make sure your bulb is an Osram brand bulb. If not, then you do not want to use it as it may not be very good.

My tv mitsubishi wd-60735 turns on for about 2 min. then shuts off and red lamp light turns on,,,The lamp is only 3 months old.. Do I just need to replace bulb again or is it something else???

Don't know if this applys to you but if you have purchased anything but Osram or Philips replacement lamp for your DLP tv then this is probably your problem.. The generic is VERY tempting in this recession but in this case generic is poison to your dlp tv... i have a Mitsubishi 60735 and went thru 2 generic bulbs when my tv kept shutting down on it's own and the lights on front would flash, i could cut it back on for 10 minutes then flicker and shut down again ..well since the bulb was new i thought it may be defective so i got is exchanged for another one ... after all of the post i have seen how much repairs were going to cost on dlp sets no matter what the problem was ..i was ready to chunk the tv out the door when the second lamp was doing the same thing.....!! well a last ditch effort to save my tv before i trashed it or taking it apart to dissect it.. was to buy a brandname lamp ... in my case i purchased a Philips ..it cost twice as much =/ ..i could just return it if it didn't work.. well it was the generic lamps that was causing trouble.. the brandname worked perfectly .. i am just glad the generic lamp didn't do any damage to my TV!!! I have done further research on the generic lamps and realized that the damage it could have done was not worth the money i saved when i purchesed it... Generic is a great deal In some cases (household cleaners, etc..) but in this case GET THE NAME BRAND!!!! the only name brands i know of for these lamps are Philips or Osram/Sylvania.. hope this helps others from this headache. Do your research don't by generic lamp replacements, your DLP set cost to much to risk it.

Replacement bulbs burn out within a month

If you did not purchase the OEM Sony manufactured bulb (model LMP-H200) then you likely acquired a poor quality "after market" lamp. I recently purchased a replacement lamp for my VW60. The list price is $369, I paid $269 from a reputable brick and mortal / on-line retailer.

If you paid substantially less than $269 or bought from an unknown on-line seller, your lamp is likely the problem. Note I have seen some shady on-line sellers (with "electric" in their name) sell knock of bulbs for the same price as the OEM.

Hope this helps.

I have a sony grand Wega KDF-kdf50e2000 and when you turn the TV on it will work fine for 40 seconds and then go off with the green power/standby indicator flashing. After 40 seconds the TV will come back...

If this is the model I am thinking of, Sony has a recall on the light engine. They are going bad in many of the Grand Wegas. Call them up and they should offer a new tv. You can either get a BRAND NEW lcd tv for free, but it is going to be smaller than your current one. Or you can get a different size for a reduced price. Late last year (november 2009) my grandma saw a red band at the top of the display. We called up Sony and we got a BRAND NEW 46" 120hz Sony Bravia for about $250 if I remember correctly. And since it is a new tv, you get a new warrenty. You also get to keep your current grand wega because they simply don't want them. I stongly recommend calling them up because this will give you a new tv. Spread the word.

Need to change the bulb should I get the Sony 5100 or the Phillips or the Osram?

I have the KDS-R60XBR1 model and was told by Sony and Digital Lamp Seller you really want to replace your lamp bulb with only Certified Sony Replacement bulbs vs any aftermarket type bulbs.  I would prefer looking on the internet to find these bulbs if you don't want to purchase from the Sony site.  On the Sony site they are approx. $250 and I have seen these bulbs for $160 with the refurbished housing.  Or you can buy the buld only $90 - $120 and change it yourself and it will take you approx. 10 -15 minutes to complete this task.  Just make sure you do not touch the face of the bulb.  Good luck!

Burning out lamps on my 65inch dlp

I have 65" Mits. lamp lasted about 2+ years and burned out. bought new on internet, that lasted about 5 months and went. Got free replacement and that lasted about 4 months. No more free replacements ...

Bought new from different source and it burned out in a week.

Note: These were ALL OSRAM original lamps from reputable suppliers.

They sent a new one but also cautioned about cleaning the "filter" on the lamp housing. NOT the large screens on either side, but the small rectangular one (about 3/4" x 2"). I did this with a shop vac pulling and pushing from every angle and it was really clogged almost solid. No way air was going across the bulb to cool it.

THIS IS CRUCIAL and I feel is the keys to the kingdom! I did this and voila - no more "plastic smell" when installing the new lamp and everything's great!

I feel that Mits should be held accountable for this for not recommending the lamp housing be cleaned periodically (maybe yearly). I really feel if this were done with my original one it would have last a lot longer.

Lamp bulb

Hi shanoo

I've learnt that most Projector brands can take Osram lamps - try finding a Osram agent near you and remember to keep the wattage of the lamp the same as the previous.

Bulbs keep burning out

I would try a genuine sony replacement lamp. There are some reputable sellers on ebay selling them for a couple hundred dollars...Oh also, you say your TV is under warranty?

If it is under Sony's factory 1 year warranty, I would call them direct. If your on some sort of extended warranty plan, through a 3rd party company, tell them you want the genuine sony bulb. Put up a fight, and if that doesnt work, read the fine print for your 3rd party warranty. My extended 3rd party warranty states that if the TV fails 3 times during the extended warranty period, they will replace it with a new one as per their "Lemon" policy.
