Hello Daysinn,
The "back cover open" message is usually caused by a paper jam inside the printer.
Follow these steps to rectify the problem.
1. Unplug the power to the printer.
2. Open the back and front cover.
3. Remove the drum and toner, this may be difficult because it may be stuck; don't be afraid to pull hard, you wont break anything.
4. Check for any foreign objects, most likely a peice of paper.
5. Reinstall the drum and toner.
6. Make sure to close the front and back covers.
7. Turn the power back on.
If the message stays after all this, there may be a sensor not working.
Thanks,
Pat

Had same problem. Closer inspection revealed bit of paper out of sight. Removed the toner cartridge and worked to free torn paper. Then restart. Hope it helps.

There is a little black lever in the middle that needs to be re inserted properly. (like a little black stick in the middle. Needs to slide to the left or right. See more of this one the site. It solved it for me.

First Isolate whether it is the Side Door or their is a door on the rear make sure that isn't open.
What I would do is Physically open and re-close all doors again the tabs and sensor get sticky after awhile. If not you could have a BAD sensor door switch.
