OK here it is right from Sharp's service center support.
The unit is reporting
power surge and if the usual unplugging does not fix it then there is damage to the power unit. I mentioned that all fuses were OK but they still say that the fuses being intact does not eliminate the supply from damage
The flashing lights are operating from the low voltage part of the power supply but the main transformer is what is damaged. The buttons are operated from this transformer and as they do not respond then this is the area of damage to the supply.The unit will have to be taken to a service center.

I have the same problem except that my stereo shuts off and does the weird timer light on and then blinking thing. The stereo will play for about 3 minutes when I turn it on and then shuts off. I have tried clearing all settings as indicated in the manual but this did not work. I love this stereo! Can you help?

i have basically the same problem! but mine was flashing orange b4 i even turned it on. and then on the display it says "power on" and thts its and now its just stuck none of the buttons work. I'll try the advice tht u gave!! hopefully it will work!!! I love this stereo!!!
