Question about Canon EOS 40D Digital Camera

The LCD screen on my 40D shows the image taken, or the live view image, but there are large areas of missing image. Almost like the picture has been laid on a black background then a large piece torn out of it.... What is this? It's obviously a big concern. HELP!

If the Live View shows areas of total black, the LCD is probably faulty and needs to be taken to a Canon Dealer for repair/replacement. I believe the pictures are still okay on the computer in this case?

This is due to failure of ccd imager chip in your camera, replace ccd imager chip to get live view in lcd to take fresh pictures.
Let me know if you need ccd imager chip part number.

Lcd screen flickers in photo mode

If your Canon A85 shows distorted image in live view (camera mode) then its known problem of ccd imager chip failure. Check below image.
canon offers free of cost ccd imager chip replacement in A85 model.
Please confirm if its canon A85 camera or any other model to provide you more info.

My Nikon D40 SLR LCD screen won't show live images, only menu items and photographs that have been taken. I have to look thru view finder to take a photo. How can I activate live screen?

The Nikon D40 camera does not have "live view".

The display screen is blocked. The lens is open. Can see outline of blockage

If Canon A70 camera shows previously taken/ stored pictures properly in playback mode and does not show live view in LCD in camera mode to take fresh pictures then it is ccd imager chip failure problem and ccd imager chip will be replaced.

EOS 400D / Rebel XTi Digital Camera
EOS 400D/Rebel XTi doesn't have live view function, so you cannot see the picture you are taking.

No image on lcd

You need to enable the "live view" mode in the menu, then "set" live view as needed. When you are in this mode the shutter is open and the lens is flipped up to allow the image to hit the sensor and then to your preview screen. Because of this, the camera can't auto-focus, but there is an over-ride mode.

Canon 40D i do not know how to turn on my lcd screen so i can see through it while shooting my image, is it possible?

Hi,
Prepare to Live view shooting:
1. Set the lens focus mode (on the side of the lens) switch to <MF>
2. Set the shooting mode to a Creative Zone mode
3. In menu under the settings tab, select Live View function settings and then press <SET>
4. Turn with quick control dial to select Live View shoot and press <SET>
5. Turn with the control dial to select Enable and press <SET>

With the camera ready to shoot, press <SET> - image will appear on the screen in real-time

canon eos40d error message. cannot format cf card Camera was working fine when an error message appeared saying communication error between the camera and the lens. I removed the battery and the same message appeared then went away. A second error message appeared that said cannot format cf card. I still had the same card and had not changed it. I put a new card in and same issue. Will not read the cf card
