Yamaha Exciter jetboat: eng stops when warm, not overheating

The starboard engine on a Yamaha Exciter Jet Boat (EXT 1200W) cuts off when it warms up but it is not overheating. There is no spark when this happens.

I had put the temperature gauge on it and it was not overheating. I put a timing light on it and I could see the erratic spark and no spark when it stopped. It turned out to be water in the front cover, all up in flywheel and stator.I cleaned it out and put in a new stator. The sensors seemed to be sealed so I left them alone. This cured the stopping problem. It still is running a bit rough but I think that it might need the carburetors cleaned. This engine is a two cycle and I don't think it has an oil pump.

I have a 1998 Yamaha Exciter jet boat as well and am having a similiar problem. I just took it in today and the mechanic believes that it may be the oil pump failing which causes the pistons to stick and not lube the engine properly, thus causing overheating and eventuallly stall. The one motor sounds beautiful and the other sounds unhealthy. He checked compression and it seemed fine and it has new plugs. Maybe this is the same problem you are having...Hope this helps...

Hi, I have a 1996 3200 maxum. My problem is after 20 minutes my boats right engine starts missing and my volt meter starts flickering. The alt is new.

Kind of sounds like a short in that engine's electrical system. Not sure why it happens after 20 minutes, but perhaps that's when it gets warmed up and the choke comes off. Check the wires for spots where they could rub on a surface and cause a short.

Why engine siren was going off while driving boat and now the engin will not start

Hey Art,
The sound you heard was either the overheating buzzer or (??) the no water flow buzzer... either one is NOT what you want to hear..
sounds like you may have damaged a bearing ... or possibly seized a piston..or burned a hole on the top starboard piston .. YOU can run a compression test on all the cylinders.. that will tell you if you have damaged a cylinder/piston... it should pump 120PSI with the throttle help wide open! After that... SORRY,, its time for a trip to a Qualified professional, tell him what happened.. he will know what to do.....

...(my 225HO "holed a piston" ..running 4500RPM... cool morning.. it locked up with NO warning.. flywheel was warm.. block was cold..- I DID NOT let it warm up long enough!!)

High rpm problem after bad gas will not rev.i messed with the jet setting and made it worse

Assuming that the bad fuel has been cleaned away, check the fuel filter, air cleaner, and muffler for plugging. Turn both jet screws CW to stops (lightly) then back out CCW 1-1/2 turns each. This is a basic setting which should allow the engine to start and warm up. After warm, pull the throttle full on and turn the H jet needle CW until the engine starts to speed up. Final adjustment is when the engine 4-strokes at speed unloaded, but immediately 2-strokes when cutting. Release the throttle and adjust L jet needle CW until the engine idles fairly well, but still allows the engine to 'follow the throttle'. Hope this helps!

What`s the function of starboard outlet spout ?

The water squirter out the side is there to show you that there is cooling water going through the engine. If the outlet spout stops shooting water out the side you need to stop the engine and investigate. I have had mine stop shooting water. I stopped the boat and blew air through the hole backwards to clear the tube. One time I had to pull the hose off the motor(where the squirting water enters a hose to the outlet spout) and push a piece of wire into the engine outlet hole to clear it. Fortunately , the motor was never in any danger of overheating only the wizzer hole was blocked , water was still cooling the motor. Again if the outlet spout stops shooting water turn off the motor and make sure water is entering and cooling the motor.

Yamaha 570 exciter..wont start or run when cold

You need a richer mixture than normal in a cold engine. It sounds like your machine is too lean on the idle circuit. Turn the air screw in on each carb to richen it up. Also, verify the choke is working properly.
