Sony STR 1200 audio-visual sync

My Sony 1200 receiver (HDMI) has the annoying habit of making the sound arrive a fraction earlier than the visuals (when watching dvds). Can this be fixed?

Thank you.

Yes it can be fixed.

Enter the speaker setup menu and toggle till you get to the selection for speaker distance. Assuming that you have your speakers properly positioned for correct reproduction of 5.1 surround sound, decreasing the setting for speaker distance will help. Start with 3-4 feet closer from the current setting. This enables the on board DSP (digital signal processor) to delay in milliseconds, the sound output for closer distance settings. It can also advance in milliseconds as well for further distance settings FYI.

My Sony STR-DN2010 Shuts off When I turn up volume. Also, the HDMI Out to the TV stopped working.

The unit shutting down when you turn it up sounds like a bad speaker hooked up to it. That is the most likely cause. As far as the hdmi problem, with the receiver turned off, press and hold the power button until it says 'clearing' on the front panel. This will reset the unit. Many times it is just a setting that is messed up. If that doesn't fix the hdmi problem, then there is most likely a problem with the hdmi switching IC which will require that board to be replaced.

I have a Sony STR-K750 receiver running with a Samsung 50 inch series 6 tv.There is a digital lead running from the Austar receiver to the Sony receiver for sound.I have a Hdmi lead running from the Austar...

Run both audio and video to the tv, then use the tv optical audio out to go back to the receiver. The problem is, when you split the signal, the tv takes longer to decode the hdmi signal =, thus delaying it from the original audio signal.

Hi, You might want to run your ps3's hdmi into your hk, as I'm sure it has hdmi inputs. Using your hk as the audio /visual switcher may resolve this issue-and by the way the hdmi cable has audio built in. I hope this was of some help and thanks for choosing FixYa, good luck Prodzilla.

Hi there I don'tseem to be getting any component video output. I am inputting virgin via optical input video 1, I get the sound and the box even displays virgin but no visual output?

Optical is for "audio only" you need to send Video from whatever source you are hooking up, ie. TV,DVD,DSS,etc. Use what the source has, if it's got Component Video out, use that, Don't use HDMI! still too many firmware issues! Make sure when you hook it up to the receiver that you hook it up to the same input as your audio, just on the video side. It will say DVD or DSS or CBL next to the green, blue, and red inputs. Hope this helps

Can't get Playstation3 sound through the STR-DG800 using HMDI.

Do you have your ps3 connected to the TV with HDMI and then audo cables from the TV to the receiver? If so, you need to make sure you change the audio settings on your TV to surround sound.

No Video or Audio on HDMI on Sony STR-DG800

The sony device may not be able to support the Toshiba. Make sure that is completely compatible and that you have the correct cables and setting to support everything.

I think you have to run a separate audio line from the dvd to the 510, because the HDMI is only passive
