To disable sleep mode in vista follow the steps

Go to start and type in the search box Power Options hit the enter button
On the Left side there is a panel Click Change when the computer sleeps
Click the drop-down box which says Put the computer to sleep and select Never
Click Save changes

New monitor purchased with a package with compaq desk top, but trying to use with a Acer desk top, screen comes on , but then goes completely dark after about two seconds. If switched off then on, again...

Could be a faulty monitor, or could be missing the driver information for the monitor. Usually when you first connect it will use a generic driver to start but then should automatically download and install the correct driver information for the monitor. Could also just be a faulty cable, power or VGA, HDMI, which ever you are using. Try using different cables first, then you can google search for the correct driver and manually install it.

My monitor has kicked into sleep mode and won't "wake up".

Unplug all the Cables from Compaq Presario 5103 CL and leave the Keyboard, mouse and monitor cable pluged in.

Now make sure the power cable of the monitor should be pluged in and the power cable of the tower should be pluged in.

Now to check if the montor is fine just unplug the video cable only which will show no input signal on the screen. If it shows this signal the monitor is fine. Plug back in the video cable.

If the monitor is going to sleep mode it might be possible that the old computer ( Compaq Presario 5103 CL ) is in stand by mode. hit any key on the keyboard and it should come back .

If it is not in the stand by mode then do one thing. Check the same monitor with the new computer. If it is working. Perfect ..!

Do one thing now ..!

Unplug all the cables from your old system and then press the power button for 30 sec and let it go. Now plug the keyboard, mouse and the monitor try again.
If it works Perfect. If not ..!

Then you need to open the tower and check on the processor FAN is it running..? If its not running you will not get the display as the fan is responsible for the display on the screen. Otherwise...!

Check the Tower possibly the Tower is not getting the power.

Try these steps and let me know If it works

Monitor TFT 5015 now says "going to sleep

Make sure the laptop's external VGA port is turned on. There will be a function key somewhere on the keyboard (location varies by manufacturer and model) that controls the connector. If the connector has gotten turned off the external monitor will go to sleep because it's not getting any input.

This monitor series( HP Compaq WF1907) seem to have a inherent problem with the sleep mode control circuit. You should take this unit into the service center for repair. Hope this helps.

Compaq Presario SR1000

Unless compaq displays that message when the computer goes into sleep mode, it could be a virus.
