Can you make it go while attached to a Power Adapter ? and with battery OUT, try that first. IF it works, buy a new battery for that model. Batteries can go so flat they cannot be charged, without special equipment, and even then they may not resurrect. funnily enough, leaving things without current running through them, or powering up,every few weeks, etc, can often cause a problem, strange huh?

I tried to tape last night and I have can not see what I am taking pictures of. YES the lense cap is off. I can access the menu, but can not see a picture.

OK, if camcorder playback old recordings properly and does not show live image in camera mode then it gets ccd imager chip failure problem.
CCD Imager chip will be replaced in camcorder to get live view in camera mode for recording.
Let me know exact model number of your Sony camcorder written at bottom of camcorder for more info.
Thanks.

Flashing red icon on LCD during recording session AND playback. cam works fin but what is it?

Behind the regular battery is a door to a lithium "coin" battery. It needs to be replaced (if it is even in there.

Recording and playback problem

maybe you should replace it with a new camcorder instead of repairing it to the technician. you will cost alot for having it repair rather than to buy a new one. hope that helps!

Camcorder is dead - power supply not to blame.

Intermittent fault? Playback of recorded footage not possible.
Even tried to check 'playback' with an older tape.

No sound on playback

I think, built-in small speaker is not working. try to replace it.

Playback won't work

needs to be cleaned and possibly tension adjustments. most cases this will fit it but the video heads could need replacing.
