My IM connection from IL to CA is good in all repsects except for the voice function. i get a loud humming noise and major feedback like sound.
on the other end my voice is good for the most part. HP technical support has determine my computer is operating properly (mic and speakers)
how do i check to see if the problem is on my end. and could a bad mic on the other end cause this problem?
If it is feedback - (your mic picking up sounds from the speakers,) a good set of headphones will cure the problem
Some times it might be problem with Network jam.

TRY to speak...There wil you find The differences...
And follow the instruction and Finish..
>Check your Jack of MIC(same time your Ear speaker Jack too)
>Change your Mic

>Tell the other one to change his mic......
Sometimes other Electronic device may create noise(Speaker and so)
