I have a netgear wireles usb adapter i put it on my desktop computer and i find asante pc wireless but they ask me for the network security key to connect

i believe that means you have a password*(security key) enabled on your wireless. You should be able to go to your routers web address...go to netgear.com and search around or read the manual. If someone like TWC or your ISP set up your wireless router, you can call them and they should give you the security key that was set up on your internet service.

SECURITY

To enable the wireless connection, you need to access the setup page of the router.

In your browser's address bar, type 192.168.2.1.

By default, leave the password blank.

On the Belkin setup page, go to Wireless.

You may change the SSID (wireless network name), so that you can easily identify which is your network.

Then go to Security under Wireless. You can use either WEP or WPA, depending on the capabilities of your wireless adapter. If you are not sure, you may use the standard wireless security which is WEP. Just enter a passphrase and it will generate a network key.

Take note of the network key, you will use this to all your wireless computers.

I hope this helps!

How to use the wireless key

Hi,

Wireless keys are like your secret password. Provided you have a wireless router and wireless devices to access internet - You might want to secure the wireless signals emitted by the router to ensure that your neighbour is not using free internet :-). So all you do is access the router's setup page and under wireless tab enable the wireless security feature.

Wireles security generally of two types
- WEP
- WPA

select the one suits best to your network and save the changes. once you are done with the router - you will now search for wireless network from your computer/s and select the network. The router will now ask you to type the password (the one you eariler entered on the router). Enter the correct password and you will be connected. Now your neighbours can see your network but cannot access it unless you share your password with them.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 w/ window xp. I show my wireless connection on the signal is excellent but when i click internet explorer its says its connect to internet - i dont have working offline clicked...

Try connecting to another wireless connection... if it connects to another connection and you get to the internet, then it is something with your wireless router or modem. Your PC can "see" a wireless connection, so it is NOT PC hardware.

It sounds like you can connect to the router, but cannot go through the router to get to the internet. Probably a simple issue with your modem or router. Try power cycling the modem, and power cycling the router. Then restart your PC and try connecting again.

If all that fails, try installing Mozilla Firefox and see if that will get out to the internet. It may be a problem with Internet Explorer.

I need to secure an unsecure network.

You need to log into the router and go to the wireless settings. The to wireless security. There choose WEP, WPA etc. On the right hand side of the screen is definitions of these methods. Click on more for instructions of how to enable the security measures.

Wireless lan

The unit will turn power on for the WiFi when you attempt to use Mail or the NetFront browser.  When the WiFi is active there will be a little green light in the bottom left corner of the unit.
For WiFi to work, you will have to setup the security key to connect to secure WiFi networks.  These settings are entered into the NetFront browser Network preferences.
