I am working a computer an Acer Aspire M5640 desktop with Windows Vista Home Premium. The system would not boot. When I took a look and turned it on and the monitor has "no signal." There is no splash screen and I cannot even see the POST. I tried it with one of my monitors. Same thing; nothing showed up on the screen. The blue power light turns on and the case and power supply fans work when you push the power button. I opened up the case and removed the RAM and disconnected and then reconnected all cables. I also cleaned the motherboard, processor and I tried it again and still no luck.what will i do?

Nothing showing up on the screen, definitely not a monitor issue the way you describe it. And you did all physical repair checks and such? Then the most likely problem I see is with the operating system. Windows Vista is so glitchy that any number of things could go wrong with it. I wouldn't put it past that OS. If you could get past the monitor issue perhaps you can uninstall that OS and upgrade to windows seven. Otherwise I'd take it in for a more professional diagnosis =/

The last step is indeed the replacement of the video card - if even that fails then the motherboard is dead, it needs a new one.

Could you please clarify what is the problem for M5640 desktop with upgrade HDD up to 2 TB. Capacities are visiable in setup and operating system properly. But format procedure is frozen exactly about 54%...

Your computer is not compatible with a Boot Hard drive with size of 2TB. The BIOS does not allow/support it.

You will need to install a smaller hard drive as the Boot drive for Windows and then use the 2TB drive as a slave drive.

2TB boot drives are supported by Intel's new 2nd Generation I3, I5 or I7 on the 1155 Socket.

Thumbs Up!

Take care!

The rescue disc that can only be made on your laptop by your laptop contains the required drivers. The Vista DVD on has generic drivers and may have specific drivers missing.
Are you attempting a fresh install or are there fragments of an old troublesome system still there?
If there is fragments left, after checking that the rescue/restore data is no longer on the hard drive, format the drive first and try again. It should then work.

Check the processor on the machine first: is it seated properly, is the cooling fan turning on it. Next, reseat all of the memory modules in the case. Finally, test the keyboard and mouse and confirm they work; try a different keyboard and mouse on the machine. Listen for any unusual noises in the case (any noises that sound out of the ordinary), try running the machine with the side panel off if possible.

I would suggest going with XP Pro first off but what you need to do is get into your bios and change the boot priority to the cdrive as the first device then harddrive as second. Put your XP disc in and reboot the computer after a few moments you should see press any key to install ...... this will start you off with the install from here on follow onscreen instructions.

Onsce at windows desktop you will need to get a ton of drivers and this is were the fun comes in. Use support.intel.com for all intel devices inside the system. After that you will have to goto your device manager and see what still needs to be installed. Now you will have to hunt down the manufacures websites and go to there support page and get needed drivers.
