I have a question similar to the one you answered a few months ago. My cooktop has a red, a black, a white, and a green wire. From the circuit breaker I have a black, a white, and a bare ground wire. How do I hook up the wires? I connected black and red to black, white to white, and green to ground but the burners don't get hot and the fan runs about 30 secs and shuts off.
Hi,
A similar concern on a different model (8230):
To my knowledge, the:
green - ground
white - neutral
black - 120 to ground
red - 120 to ground but between red & black, it should be 240. A Jenn-Air JED8230 requires a 3-wire, 120/240 Volt, 60 Hz Outlet.
Pls consult/confirm with your local electrical utility/codes the availability/applicability of this power/wiring system or reference National Electrical Code, NFPA No. 70
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.

The fan runs only on hi, then shuts off and smells.
One burner, when fixing eggs, made a loud "pop" and the light went out.
