Sony VAIO FRV37 Notebook Logo
Posted on Mar 12, 2008

Video problem....... Hello, I finally got my pcg frv37 to boot up and found that the cpu was not secure and now I have no video. I have another pcg frv37 and plugged the monitor in to that one and everything is fine. I checked that the ram was seated properly and done this many times thinking that was the problem but still no video. I also clicked the reset button on the underside of the laptop and was wondering if this is why I have no video. Should I reinstall the video driver and if so how would I do this? Thanks

No, I don't see any video at all, no logo's no nothing. I tried all the function keys and also tried hooking up to an external monitor and still nothing. Like I said in my previous post the laptop monitor is working when hooked up to another pcg frv37. Unless I am not using the function keys correctly what do you propose I use for the function key and how do I do that?

I attached a seperate monitor to my Sony pcg-frv32 and both screens worked well. I went to control panel/display and tried to fix the laptop screen so it didn't display. I was sucessful in only having it show a green square. Not satisfied I tried to make it dark and I lost display in both screens. I tried the recovery disk and nothing happens. It seems that the computer is still working, just not displaying......Help!

Do you see video at any time on the screen? Like when the VAIO logo appears?

It may be that you need to use a function key to return the view from an external screen to your laptop's screen.

Twice beep sound is coming. Booting is not happening for my p4p800 mx/s board

Hello !
If you check out ASUS support, you will find this troubleshooter for the motherboard not booting :
1. Please clear CMOS.
2. Please take out your memory cards and video card, try to clean their golden connectors with a rubber, then reseat them back.
3. Please take the CPU cooler out, add some thermal paste to the CPU surface, then reseat the cooler back and keep the cooler tightly installed.
4. Please keep the necessary components(CPU, one memory) onboard for a test.
Finally, we would recommend you to replace a BIOS battery to have a test.
Also, by looking over beep codes I have found for AMI BIOS these problems for the 2 short beeps :
1. Memory parity error (Description : A memory parity error has occured in the first 64 KB of RAM. The RAM IC is probably bad).
2. POST fail (Description : One of the hardware tests have failed).
If you have done those and it still doesn't boot, let me know I'll try to find other solutions.
All the best !

Hello. I have Sony Vaio PCG-5426. And I can't reinstall windows on that machine. I have out CD-ROM "II FreeCom" and i try to reinstall with that. In BIOS menu I acces for first boot drive...

you shouldn't need to have to press f9 to boot from cd rom if you have it set in the bios as the first boot device , are you sure the copy of windows on cd that you have is bootable. Try booting from the disc on another laptop or pc and see if you can start it

Another option to try is to boot from a usb drive

instructions on how to do that are here

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=118576

once you have booted to usb you should be able to access the cd rom

depending on what version of windows you are trying to install you will need to run different programs.

you could also install vista or windows 7 to usb drive and install it from that, it is much quicker than installing from cd/dvd you would need to be able to boot from usb to start with though

how to install vista or windows 7 from usb instructions can be found here

Hello, SONy Pcg-FRV37,Power problems

Clean the metal contacts on the Battery and in the compartment. Then, reset the BIOS to its default settings.
Next, plug in the AC Adaptor to charge the Battery.

If the issue persists then the problem may be related to the power circuitry.

Max Ram PCG FRV37

If the 1GB sticks fit and you are able to insert them it will not do any harm to your PC. However, it will only use the max amount stated in the manual. This is hardwired into the motherboard so there is no get around.

Try holding down the "FN" key or function key and using one of the Function keys i believe its F6 on the sony's to brighten up your screen if that doesn't work try downloading and reinstalling your video driver and finally you may have a video card issue

Pcg-xg28 no display

Either the video card is bad, or the memory is bad. Replace the memory first to see if that fixes the problem. Also, if capable, reseat the CPU, which is located beneath the Keyboard.
