I have prepared a home movie on Windows Movie Maker and when I copied it to a DVD it would not play on a dvd player can anyone tell me what I did wrong please thanks joe

The reason why the DVD disk you created may not contain the file format the DVD player recognizes. On a normal DVD disk there are two folders - AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders. The video files are located in the VIDEO_TS folder. This video folder contains the VTS_xxx.vob video files (the video files has a .vob extension).
The video file you created may have a avi or wmv or mov or mpg extension, whilst these video files can be played on a computer but they won't play on a DVD player.
Check the movie software you are using and make sure it creates the correct file format for a DVD player.

Can you copy your tapes to a computer?

Hello friend,
The Canon ZR40 Mini DV Camcorder has the port "Firewire" so you can copy your tapes to a computer. you will need to check your computer if it has also a firewire socket (All the new laptops have it).
You don't need any drive software, Windows has all the necessary drivers built in. You can use Windows Movie Maker for the capture, but if you want to burn your finished movies onto DVD then look at something like Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 which is one stop shop application (Capture, edit and burn). you can download a 30 days trial and try it out and see if it's what you want before buying it.
Best Regards,

Want to import onto more than one DVD

Most video editing program should have all the features you are looking for. In my case, I use Vista's "Window Movie Maker" that came with the OS. It will first import videos into the program so you can see diffent section of the tape and I can import more tape and all will be displayted on the screen. Then I will drag those images to the sorting area at the bottom in order I wanted then Record! When recording on first DVD is complete, program will ask if I want to copy another. All other program would be similar to this program. -Good luck.

When I try dubbing from VCR to DVD the machine will only record about half of the VHS to the DVD. I get the following message...Recording Error - this program is not allowed to be recorded. The cause...

The DVD AGG (automatic gain control) is somehow being fooled into thinking the non-commercial tape has macrovision (copy protection). Is this a relatively inexpensive machine?
