What is wrong with my laptop? It is as if the shift key is stuck

Go into device manager in windows and delete it and reboot. If it comes back when it detects the keyboard and it works then it was a driver, if it does detect it or it wont work correctly then it is a bad keyboard. You can also try a plug in keyboard to see how it behaves, ps keyboards are not that expensive.

The letters on my keyboard doesn't work

Dust the keyboard to remove any debris.
If that doesn't work, re-seat the keyboard. This requires disassembling much of the laptop. www.ifixit.com has great guides on how to complete this for every model of mac laptop.

The colon key not typing on my laptop keyboard

if it's only that key that doesn't work, that means that the keyboard need to be replaced. However, you can open it and try to clean it with alcohol. But be very careful when doing it because keyboards internal flexes can be very delicate.

My two year old spilled water on toshiba laptop which seeped into motherboard. keyboard isnt working...can changing it help solve the problem because when we connect external keyboard while disabling...

Good thing only the keyboard is not working! To answer your question, yes. Changing your laptop's keyboard should fix it. Letting it dry for a couple of days (depends on how wet it go) MIGHT also work. Well, if it doesn't work, just continue with your plan to change the keyboard.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Hello. some keys like "6,y.u.w

if it is a laptop keyboard that is not working but you want to use an external keyboard just buy a usb one. Typically if you are running an windows xp or newer, it will just recognized the keyboard and you will be fine.
PS2 is that round plug with 6 pins you would find on older computers.

If you did not want to use an external keyboard and want to try to fix the the internal laptop's keyboard, there are a few things you could try:
1'st, shoot the keys with air duster to see if you can dislodge anything stuck under them.
2'nd, you can pop off the keys and press directly on the contact to see if the button works.
3'd, if that doesn't work you can take off the keyboard and ther will be a part number on the bottom of it. type that into google and you can find a place that sells replacement keyboards.
I did this on a Toshiba satellite and it worked fine, just be sure not to break the keyboard ribbon connector on the motherboard when you remove it.

Whenever i type d ]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]] gets typed automatically and now my sshif key i not working for some key.its so irritating and when im switchin ]]g on my system it goes on boot manager.please help...

Hi!

To determine wether it is a hardware (keyboard itself) or an OS problem, plug an external keyboard to your laptop (you didn't mention the manufacturer or model of your laptop, but even if it doesn't have a PS2 connector, it has almost for sure an USB connector to plug the keyboard in).

Now, if the external keyboard works OK it means no OS problem.

Hope it helped.
