A needle is a precision part. Look to see if the needle has a conical point descending from the cartridge needle carrier. If not, replace the needle.
*Always protect the needle while you adjust things!
Pressure is essential for the needle to track. Turn the weight down until the needle just floats above the record. Zero the weight by turning just the weight indicator, not the weight. Now turn the weight to add 1.2 to 1.5 grams. (Always use the manufacturer's recommended weight if different!)
A level surface is important. Make sure the turntable is level.
Test the arm bearings:
Adjust the weight until the arm floats. With a feather, gently push the arm towards the center. Now gently push it back. The arm should move smoothly with no hesitation and easily. Reset the weight to 1.5 grams or less.
If your cabinet is moving when you walk around, the records will skip. Find a different place for the turntable or don't walk around. In severe cases, raise the weight to 1.75 to 2 grams, but this wears the needle fast an can cause distortion.

My machine is skipping stiches it seems its not picking up from the bobbin

Install a brand new needle and confirm it is inserted with the flat side facing the proper direction.. A bent, damaged needle will sometimes cause skipped stitches or even needle strikes inside the machine. A new needle is the least expensive cure for a lot of sewing machine problems. The needle should be changed about every 8 hours of sewing or at least when starting a new project.

Remove the top thread. ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Verify the thread path is correct.

Sometimes, skipped stitches will occur if the needle, thread, and fabric are incompatible. Be sure to use the correct needle for your project. Use a good quality thread--AVOID old or bargain bin thread!

If the machine continues to skip stitches, then it may be out of time. Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.

My pfaff hobbymatic 875 is skipping thread on the bobbin side

Be sure to use a brand new needle. If the needle is bent or damaged, it will frequently skip stitches. Also, if you are using the incorrect needle for the fabric & thread you are using, it will skip stitches, ie a ball point needle on woven fabric.

Skipping stitches

Skipped stitches
1. A bent or dull needle
2. The wrong needle for your fabric
knit fabrics require a jersey or ballpoint tip. Most wovens do well with a universal tip, and specialty fibers, like leather or metallic, usually require specific needles.
3. Incorrect machine threading
4. Unbalanced needle thread tension
Start by making relatively small changes and run a test stitch to evaluate the impact. If you need to adjust the tension dial using woven cotton fabric with good quality all-purpose thread and a new needle
5.check the needle is inserted correctly. The needle needs to be pushed as far up the needle shaft as possible. It's easy to insert the needle half way, clamp it down and think it is inserted correctly.
the flat part of the needle should be positioned towards the back. If the needle is not inserted correctly, it will not be able to pull up the bobbin thread and will cause skipped stitches.
6. If the suggestions don't help then it is time for a tune-up.

Skipping stiches in zig zag

This could be caused by several things:

Blunt needle: Have you changed the needle firstly, skipping stitches is a sure sympton of a blunt needle.
Wrong type needle: are you using a regular needle on a stretch fabric, this will cause skipping too, change to a ball point needle.
Timing out: this is the more serious fault, if its skipping after you've changed the needle and sews okay on straight stitch, then it is likely your needle to rotary hook timing is slightly out. Something for a technician to deal with but there is simple diagrams here if you want to take a look at what is involved.
