The 1440 does not have a reset persay, the way to reset it is to hold the power button to the off position for 15 seconds, then restart it!
that will not cure your problem though if the update was interrupted....run the update again..either with a fully charged battery or plugged in to power using the home charge.
if the update fails, i can give you something else to do.
keep in mind, Magellan will repair or replace (free of charge) any of there gps that were rendered inoperable do to one of there updates, but they will want you to try the update first before you send it back, so might as well get that out of the way

again another genius has rated this as not helpful but i wish the down rater would enlighten the rest of the world just how do you reset a MAGELLAN 1440.....this should be good if he dares show his words of wisdom
Bill,
Doesn't Magellan require proof of purchase in the last year to do anything free of charge? I've tried to contact them, but I have not received any answer yet. I just tried to update my 1440 from 1.07 to the latest using 1.9993 version of Content manager and I an getting an IBOOT window saying "Upgrade has been done Please remove the SD card and Reboot the device" but rebooting (there never was an SD card installed) just gets me back to that screen again. Is there any way to recover from this like maybe using a special boot Micro SD card?
if Magellan wont help you, let me know and ill tell you what to do, unless you want me to tell you either way, but it does require moving files around inside the 1440 ...did you back up the 1440 before you tried to update it.
i have a set of files for the 1440 if you dont have any, but your computer must be able to see the 1440
to answer your initial question, NO they dont ask for proof of purchase but they will ask you to try and run the update again before theyll give you an RMA
Could you send me a copy of the 1440 files? im not able to get a hold of any for mine and im stuck on the USB screen :(

Hi,
I have a quick question related to my Magellan RoadMate 1440.
Since I did a map update, im stuck at the login screen. Im able to view the Magellan drive into "my computer" and Magellan Content Manager is able to display the address and the map version, but it's verry slow.
I see that you have a set of file that I can use. Could you send those to me ?
Thanks
Ben
