My Nextel i580 only displays intermittently on the outside screen so I can't see who is calling without opening the phone. Also can't see time, date, etc. Backlight works fine. Is this hardware or software or both? Can I repair this phone myself? Any repair manuals available?

This isn't possible. Nextel is no longer.

you dont have to do anything at all. Just put your sim card in and go. I580 or any other motorola IDEN phone will only work on IDEN networks like (boost,nextel,mike,telus) It will never work for any other carriers no matter what you do.

Yes you can.

1 Either using bluetooth, which can't be too large a file/picture.
2 Next would be to take out the micro sd card and put it in it's adapter and put it in the computer and transfer the pictures;
3 send an email with the picture attached in the email. Send it to your 10 digit nextel phone number @messaging.nextel.com and when you get the text and open it the picture should be there, then just save it to you phone or card.

It should work. It always has for me. One time i had to reset all the "advanced settings" the code for that is a zeros.
