There are regular SD cards and high-capacity SD cards (HCSD). Some devices are not compatible with HCSD cards. It sounds like your camera is not compatible. You may still be able to purchase 2G & 4G regular format SD cards that will work fine.

I hope that helps.

SOURCE: sd card

Sorry, but your camera was designed before the 4GB SDHC card came out. Although they look exactly the same as a standard SD card, they are not. Your camera can only use standard SD cards (2GB or less).

What's your problem?i put a 4gb memory card in my canon SD 200 and it says error why

The SD200 works with SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work in this camera. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

I have a canon ixus 700. i've tried to insert a new SanDisk 4 GB memory card. the menu says the card is locked when (i've treble-checked) it definitely is not locked. i read from others that...

According to the specs on Canon's web site, the IXUS 700 works with SD cards, not SDHC cards. SD cards are limited to 2GB in size (there are rare 4GB SD cards, but they tend not to work in SD devices).

Of course, it's your call as to how definitive any manufacturer's web site touting their product might be.

My canon powershot SD500 elph's card is locked..one solution someone suggested was to slide the little slider on the side of the card. This card doesn't have that. I put these pictures to my computer but...

Maybe you could try to format the card in the camera. If that doesn't work, try formatting it in the computer. (The card alone, not the camera connected to the computer) Otherwise I think it's broken. Do you use a micro/mini SD adapter? If the contact is bad, it may tell you "Memory card error" and "card locked" at the same time. Check the contact.

4GB card incompatible?

I've come across many people who say their card isn't locked only to find that the slide switch on the side of the card is indeed in the locked position. Check yours.

Can ixus700 upgrade to use 4gb memory card?

The ixus 700 is only specified to be compatible with SD memory cards (and MMC cards). The protocol for SD cards only covers up to 2MB. Cards of higher capacity are the SDHC (high capacity) protocol, but this protocol did not exist when the ixus 700 was introduced. As far as I can tell, there is no way to upgrade to be compatible with the newer protocol.

Formatting a 4GB SD card for my canon ixus 700

The IXUS 700 works with SD cards, 2GB and smaller. It will not work with higher-capacity SDHC cards. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

The IXUS 700 is called the SD500 in some parts of the world. You may download the SD500 manual and more from here.

Canon digital ixus 700

I understand that it takes a maximum of 2GB. Still loads of photo/video capability. Don't make the mistake I did of buying a 4GB SDHC card for it. It won't take it.

MEMORY CARD

I would think that as long is it is a sd memory card then it would be compatible since the camera uses the sd card and the 4gb is for photo storrage

SDHC High Spedd Card Reader in PowerShort SD500

Sorry, no. SDHC cards are electronically different than SD cards and will not work in devices not originally designed to accept them. This is a hardware difference and cannot be changed by firmware.
