your router and and default gateway should be the same address. Make sure your computer doesn't have a static ip address assigned to it.

2 Questions: 1) is the router conected to a DSL modem? 2) When you are in the router's web page, does the the router show as its Internet or WAN IP address as 192.168.1.*, or is it some other set of numbers? If it is some other set of numbers, to protect your privacy do not type the full set of numbers, just give the first 3 sets and then asterisks (for example: 24.13.231.*)

What is it used for?

Hello,
You can use this wireless router to connect different wireless devices together. Each device with a wireless network card (computer, phone, gaming system, printer, etc.) can connect to the router without a cable. This will form a network where information can be shared.
The main purpose people use this for is to connect their network to the internet. As long as the router is connected to your internet, every other wireless device can also connect.
Thanks,
Pat

How to use my Cnet CWR-854 Router as a wirerless antenna for pc.

You can't really use a router to connect to another router, you can sometimes use them as an "Extender" for range, but not as a WiFi card, they simply aren't made to operate that way.

Trying to access 192.168.1.254 for siemens se567, followed advice to go to run and cmd ping, don't understand other go to access point, my situation is the older couple I live with have wirless internet in...

The internet connection has a security that's why you can't access the internet. The only thing you have to do is to know the wpa password of the router.

This router has a default username and password to configure all the settings. This is the manual for Cnet CWR-854 Router:

http://www.cnetusa.com/eng/Manuals/Wireless/CWR-854/CWR-854%20ver%20F%20User%20Guide.pdf

It seems that the router is already configured by an authorized person, the best thing you should do is contact the authorized person that knows everything about the router.

No access to web based utilty

Seems like you need to verify that the web management interface is at the address your specified or that your PC is indeed wirelessly connected to the CWR-854.

The following suggestions assume you use Windows XP as your OS:
  1. You need to connect to the CWR-854 via a network cable (one end connected to your PC the other to a LAN port on the CWR-854) initially.
  2. You can try to access the web management interface at the IP address you expect, i.e. 192.168.1.1 or you can verify the IP address by finding the Default Gateway your PC is issued by the CWR-854 from:
  • Right clicking on the tray icon of the network connection, choose "Status" then click on the "Support" tab to see the Default Gateway.
  • OR click on "Start" then "Run...", type "cmd" then type "ipconfig" and read the Default Gateway value under the section for the "Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection".
Use the Default Gateway value as the new address to use for the web based utility if it differs from what you expected.

CWR-854 router

Type in the address of your router - you say that is set to192.168.1.254 and you will see the config page( after logging in ) for your router. This is more usually 192.168.1.1 though .

Setting up a wireless network with internet

You will need to logon the router via the computer, and create a PPPOE internet connection. If you cannot connect to the router wirelessly my may need to use a cat5 cable between the computer and the router. The user manual that came with the router will show you how to do this. If you do not have the manual. Do the following: open internet explorer, in the address window type the IP of the router "example" http://192.168.2.1 your router IP should be on the bottom of the router. If not click start/run, type ipconfig at the > the router ip is listed at "default gateway".once you get to the routers logon page enter one of the following: username "leave blank" – username " admin " -or- username "admin" - password 1234 –or- leave password field blank.once logged on the router go to internet connections and select PPPOE enter the username and password provided by your ISP save the settings and you should make the internet connection now.
