The tape deck is not working. The local repair shop said that I need the 2 "main" belts for it, but they were unable to get it for me. What are the part numbers and where can I get them? This is for the Sony MHC-NX1. Thank you, Reza

The repair of a dual cassette deck is usually not worth it if you are paying a Technician but since you are doing it yourself, there are screws that must come out of the deck to take the transport out. Some of them require you to take the plastic door off. They are not a treat to work on and often even when you are done they have poor performance anyway. Where the belt goes is indicated on the pictorial diagrams of the service manual. Otherwise it is common sense and a little bit of physics. I have probably done 400 by now. Maybe some TV shops will work on it but they are really not real Technicians for tape decks and most times hacks.
If it has slipped off then the belt is too loose so you will need to replace it. Too many people try and put ONLY a new belt on and forget all the rest of the work a deck needs. They are only successful for a very short time if at all. I have been working on tape decks for 45 years and have seen just about all brands. Look for a shop that specializes in tape deck repair.
Dual well decks are among the cheapest and poor designs resulting in the problem you are having. Those decks that are well built may still need belts after a long time but the final result of the repair is a machine that will give good performance like when it was new while the dual cassette deck give the poor performance and then less due to wear that was had when they were new- figures like Wow and Flutter, speed accuracy and they rarely put really good heads in these as well. I fix them for clients but they never come up to a Teac C-3RX deck quality wise. Just so you know I have been working on tape deck for 40 years and even at Sony at one time. The ES line was the only good dual cassettes made and they have their problems too.
I just worked on one of those the other day. The unit needs other maintenance besides the belt- Flywheels need to removed and oiled and capstan shafts inspected and cleaned- I don't know how many ask me how to put in belts and then the unit end up at my shop because there are a lot other factors involved in the service of this deck. The last X7 I worked on needed both motors reconditioned but it worked great after that. Skywave Tape Deck Repair in Chicago if you need the job done right. I have the belts here and Russ is in New Jersey if you are out that way.
CPC may hold parts for B & O products. They are online, so you should be able to access the site. However I don't know if they only deal with trade. If they won't deal with you (because your just an individual) and they do stock the part, why not ask a local TV repair shop to get it for you from CPC. You will probably have to pay upfront, but it might solve the problem.
This unit has 2 belts that are slipping and need to be replaced. This is not the easiest repair for a novice. The belts shouldn't cost more than about $5 total. I woud recommend that you seek a shop that repairs audio gear and inquire about the repair cost.
The problem here is that the unit is stuck in a partial position. The "reset" by unplugging and plugging back in usually causes the unit to reset to a known position. If there is no activity (no motor sound), it will need to be opened up and reset manually. If you hear the motor running for a short period, it is attempting to reset, but the belt is most likely worn or broken. These units are relatively simple, but a bit tricky to dis-assemble. This repair should not require anything other than a belt or 2. Figure on $3-$10 for parts plus the local labor rate for the repair.
. Remove top lid (4 screws on the side) 2. remove the back plastic mount on the mechanics (2 pink long screws on the top). The bottom are two plastic hook lock. The mount pulls back and the belt and pulleys are exposed. NOTE: It is the mount you are removing, not the tape deck itself.
Really simple one this. You have a slipping belt. Don't try to use any more tapes in it, you end up chewing them up. I change all my belts in my decks every 2 years due to the extreme heat we have here. Unless you know how to strip the unit and can get hold of the correct belt I'm afraid it's a repair shop job.
