HP Pavilion DV7-1020US Laptop Logo
Anonymous Posted on Mar 19, 2010

HP dv71020us. Owned the laptop for 13 months and this never happened before. Audio does not come out of speakers until a headphone jack is placed in one of the front holes. When there is something connected it plays out of the computer and not the extra speakers. Worked fine, put it in sleep mode, 2 hours later went to use it and this is where I am. Restarted, checked playback devices, turned off, removed battery, smacked it, no solution...HELP.

Your issue from what I read is a setting issue.
you have your setting in headphone mode from what I gather and you need to place the setting for the sound card in output mode which is in the Windows sound setting.
1.Check the task bar where the speaker icon is ( Windows 7) or Windows XP.
2. Left click here and your volume control will show with a caption of "mixer" at the bottom.
3. Left click this hyper link and it will show you the properties of the speak device.
4. If you see a speak icon on the left >> click it and you will then see a tabs window
with tab label across with "general being 1st.
5. click the "level" tab and you will see the l"line in" microphone etc. They may be muted click the muted sign to enable.
6. then check sound.

After installing the HP H8000 Wireless Headset the notebook internal speakers are not working on my HP ENVY dv6

When connecting a headset or any other audio device to a laptops 3.5mm audio jack, it is designed to stop the internal speakers and run only from Headphones.

If you mean that even after disconnecting the Headphones the internal speakers are still not working, ensure that the headphone jack does not have anything lodged in it, any metal object can trick the laptop into thinking there are headphones connected, cutting the internal speakers out.

Try getting a DRY cotton bud, and clean out the port with that, this will get rid of anything that may be triggering the problem.

Audio jack seems to have short

Hello,

There is probably a broken solder where the audio jack connects to the mainboard. If you are in warranty, then contact HP and they will fix it free of charge. If not, then pick up a usb sound card. They are cheap ($20), plug into a usb port, and have a speaker and headphone jack. This will fix it.

Regards,

Joe

Why doesn't the headphone jack work on my MacBook Pro?

A bad cord or cord end. The second could be your units 3.5mm Jack. Also just in case you muted or changed a seting I have included a video to check that as well.

I have a Dell Studio XPS 13 and a few months ago my speakers suddenly stopped working. I lived with it for a while by jut using a headphone jack. However, lately both of my headphone jacks have stopped...

Check the device manager in the windows control panel and make sure your audio device is listed and has no conflicts present. If all is good there, I suggest downlading the latest driver, then uninstall/remove your audio device from the device manager, then install the new driver and let the computer rediscover the harware. Sometimes it just helps when the computer thinks it's a new device.

Headphone jack does not work, audio still plays from speakers

sound like the hardware supporting your headphones may have disconnected from its solder. This could have happened from dropping the notebook with the headphones plugged in and landing badly, or a strong or constant tug on the input. Otherwise, it could be a software configuration like you've tried
