There could be many problems with your typewriter.
1.Go to this link to view the Smith Corona Wordsmith 100 typewriter manual

2. Go to troubleshooting on page 13 to see if you see your problem is listed there.
3. Else go to maintenance section and follow the given procedure to take care of your typewriter
in case it is in poor condition.
