Computer will not boot

Soyo KT-880 Dragon 2 mobo
GF 6800 Xtreme video card
HP 9300 series cd Writer plus
2 Gz ddr 400 mem
I could not get the pc to boot,...not even to post, and no confirm beep. I took everything out , put mobo on table, hooked up power, video and not drives. Still does not boot or post. What am i missing here??

  • Mott Palmer Mar 11, 2008

Sorry yes i have a 3.2 proc., but have not been able to confirm mem yet. I have switched mem sticks around and have gotten pc up and then off, within 3 sec.

Sounds like I am having multiple problems, so the only thing that is hooked to the mobo is the video, cpu, mem, and associated power cables for mobo and cpu.

Did you put a CPU in it? That's the only thing you didn't talk about in your post. Other than that, are mem modules good?

Well, in thinking about your problem, the only other things is wonder about are:

Do the Mem Module's speed match the CPU specs?

Is the CPU Fan plugged in? If not the cpu may stop bootup thinking that the fan is bad.

    Good luck...

Just enable the SATA and your system should look up any installed SATA disks and boot from there. Just give it a try first.

SY-P4I865PE + Dragon 2 v1.0 locks up while running XP with 3.0E P4

I would say ram. Most the time you have lockups is because of a bad ram address. The system will run for a while till you fill up enough resources to reach the bad ram address then the system will lock up. The funny part of your problem is that it doesn't happen with the other CPU. But I don't think the DDR400 ram was designed to be used in systems with a Prescott CPU. The motherboard may accept the ram and the CPU's all right but the Prescott was a pretty powerful CPU for it's time and I think most of the systems it was designed to run in used a lot faster ram.

This might be problem with your RAM. Remove the RAM and connect it to another memory slot or try changing RAM with new one.
