I require operating instructions as to what is requiered for flat bed stitching?

If your machine does not have a "basting" stitch selection, you make your own basting stitch by:

* Setting the stitch length to the maximum
* Loosen the upper tension so the bobbin thread lies flat under the fabric

Then to gather or remove the basting stitch, it is easy to pull on the bobbin thread.

E7 means
The start/stop button, reverse/reinforcement stitch button
or the thread cutter button was pressed while no thread
cassette was installed. If the start/stop button is pressed before the sewing machine is correctly set up or if an operation is performed
incorrectly, an error message appears in the stitch indicator. Follow the instructions that appear.
If you press (Stitch selection key) or do the operation correctly while the error message is displayed, the
message disappears

Adjustment of stitch length:
To select stitch length, turn the upper on the left side dial.
The larger the number, the longer the stitch. The stitch length cold be adjusted from 1 to 5 mm. Position "R" is for rolled and narrow hemmings.

Hi. First, I'd recommend you get a replacement manual. They are really useful. Check out http://sewingpartsonline.com/sewing-machine-instruction-manuals.aspx.

I assume you have different stitches on the machine and a diagram of some sort showing what each stitch looks like. Find one that looks like:

---^---^---^--- (maybe on its side). That's the blindstitch. Some machines require you use a blindstitch foot with the stitch, but some don't. Without the user's manual, it's hard to say what your machine requires.

Stitch length is adjusted by holding down the small button in the bed and turning the wheel to the desired number of stitches. The numbers are either on the wheel, next to the belt pulley, or under a small cover on top of the machine. Hold the button and turn the wheel either toward or away from you to get the stitches you want.
Bobbin jamming is either because of incorrect top tension or incorrect threading. Go to www.consew.com and get a parts and operation manual for free for a 224. It 's the same as the 226.

Stitch length should be set between 1 to 2.

You're absolutely correct, you'll need to either drop the feed dogs (lever generally located near the bobbin case or on the outside base of machine) or cover the feed dogs with a plate (many machines have this included).

Then... you'll need to lower the presser foot - when you lower it, it should NOT touch the bed of the machine but sit slightly raised off the fabric surface. As you stitch the presser foot will lower onto the fabric to hold it taught as the needle penetrates.

Oddly enough it's easier to achieve smooth stitches when sewing at a faster speed, but begin by stitching fairly slowly until you get a feel for free-motion stitching. You'll be doing all the guiding and it may feel a bit strange and uncontrolled at first.

Position yourself at your machine so that when your hands on your fabric/bed of machine, your shoulders are relaxed (not all hunched up) and your elbows are slightly higher than the bed of the machine.

You'll want to stitch in a side-to-side or back and forth motion (as opposed to trying to turn the fabric.
