I bypassed the safety switch (it was bad) and vacuumed and blew out all of the dust. So far with this set, 3 years old, I have replaced the bulb twice,it exploded both times, and the color wheel which also exploded! We love the picture but the next time it goes out, it goes out to the trash and I will purchase a top of the line LED/LCD set. No moving parts!!! Samsung designed and manufactured a whole bunch of lemon sets and will not admit it. I have found several hundred complaints about their DLP sets and only a few on other brands.
The Guns are going out slowly. This has been a problem with this model before. There is no quick fix to the solution you can wait until the whole thing goes or have a tech look at it personally.
The convergence circuit is the problem. If you can solder and are comfortable working inside the set where there are potentially dangerous high voltages even when unplugged, you can fix this yourself. First locate the convergence ICs which are large black ICs attached to a heatsink that will be marked STKxxx. Try resoldering the pins on these ICs first. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the ICs. Please note that there could be additional small parts that require replacement as well. Start with the ICs and let me know the results.
box about three inches high? does this have a red wire coming out the top. Sound like the flyback, it and the horizontal output transistor need replaced
#1 problem in this model for not powering up is the color wheel needs to be replaced or it could be the lamp is burn out or it could be the ballast it bad. But the #1 problem is the color wheel.
Is this an Analog TV with a picture tube? If so, it sounds like the screen is magnetized. Have you had any magnets (including speakers) near the screen?
Inside all analog TVs is what is called a degaussing coil. When you turn on the TV for the first time (cold), the degaussing coil is energized for a couple seconds to demagnetize the screen and then it goes off.
You can purchase an external degaussing coil and demagnetize the screen youself. A degaussing coil looks like a small hula-hoop about 6-8 inches in diameter with a AC line cord attached. I've even made these coils out of long lengths of enameled wire, electrical tape and a line cord.
Once itas plugged into the wall outlet, you hold it close to the screen (1/2' away) with the hoop facing the screen and move the hoop in a circular pattern, covering all areas of the screen and slowly move the hoop away from the screen while still moving in a circular patten until your about 2-3 feet from the screen.
If you did it right, the color splotches will be gone.
Let me know if I can be of further assistance to you or help you to locate one of these coils.
this indications that you have a problem with convergence. first try to go into customer menu...setup....convergence. and see if the convergence will adjust.. if it wont then you have a problem with the convergence cuircit boards.
