Please click here to see the part diagram for the Hoover Windtunnel Self Propelled model U6446-900

Greetings from GoVacuum,

For replacing the switch, you need to remove the 2 screws that are in the back of the vacuum where the handle connects to the vacuum bag housing, Part # 50 on the first page of the diagram. After the screws have been removed, you may simply slide out the handle from the rest of the vacuum cleaner. You can then at this point view the outside of the switch, however as you'll find you can't replace it from this side. You'll then need to go into the where the tool caddy is in the front top part of the vacuum cleaner. Remove the attachments from the tool caddy, and then you'll need to remove the screws that hold the tool casing in place. Remove screws pictured # 35 on page 1, and the tool caddy is item # 17.

Once the screws and the tool caddy are removed, you may then see the rest of the switch, and the leads that connect to it. The easiest way to remove the screw is to use a flat head screwdriver and pry the switch out from the back of the vacuum cleaner after removing the leads from the switch. The new switch that you'll need to purchase is Hoover part number 28161067 which can be found online here: Hoover Windtunnel Main On / Off Switch Part Number 28161067.

I hope that this helps you replace the faulty switch in yours (and your parents) vacuum cleaners. If you need to place an order for the switch, please give us a call at 1-866-468-2288.

Thank you,
Chris Jones

Most of these nozzles have a reset button on them. Standing behind the nozzle it is on the back, right side.

My on/off switch quit working. was always on for

Yes, you can, here's how:

My vacuum had this exact same problem, but was out of warranty because it was remanufactured. Thankfully, it's a very quick, five-minute fix.
  1. UNPLUG The Vacuum!
  2. Remove the cannister.
  3. Extend the handle and remove it.
  4. Remove the two torx (T-15) screws behind the power button, where the handle normally stows.
  5. There are four tabs holding the front plate containing the power button on; use your screwdriver to release them.
  6. Gently pull the front plate off.
  7. The switch on the right is the power button. Remove it, try clicking it a few times; if it sticks, great! Replace it and reassemble, otherwise you'll need to replace it.

And finally, in case your switch assembly falls apart during dissassembly, here is how it should look reassembled:

Hoover SteamVac quit working.

there is no reset button to this machine. in some cases if the machine stops or makes a weird noise or a smell like electrical, most likely it's the motor that went out or you could just have a switch that went out. if you didn't have any of these things happen, then take it to your local vac shop to get an est. done to see if would be worthe replacing the broken things or would it be better to buy another machine. hope this help's

Roomba discovery on full charge power up and it will run 5 sec power button then flashes red and roomba quits. I have tried removing battery and holding power button for 30 sec then charging same result

unfortunately the batteries on the roombas can go bad and not hold a charge and need to be replaced, also you should check all the brushes and wheels on the bottom, if they are bound up it would stop the roomba from working. the two brush rollers can be removed by pushing on the two tabs just above them, try and clean any hair from them. if its real bad you should buy the maintance kit from them witch gives you both brushes and filters as well.
