Check the drain hose for gunk then:
Fill up the tub half way with water (small load) put a cup of vinegar a 1/4 cup of baking soda let it foam up then run the washer through a regular cycle empty. If this does not work: you will need to use a commercial mold removing product.

How do we deodorize a smelly front load washer?

Buy the washing machine cleaning products near the laundry soaps. I believe Tide sells one.

Smelly Washing Machine and/or Wash Load

Due to mainly running low temp washes and bacteria building up in the hoses etc. (more prevalent if the machine is connected directly to the sink and not on a stand pipe) many machines will begin to smell, generally the smell is described as a damp flannel!. This can be transferred to the wash load if like myself you tend to put a load on before going to work and then removing when you get home. (The washing is clean but smells disgusting!!!)
Run a 90 degree cycle every 4 weeks with the machine empty except for two capfuls of baby sterilisng fluid (approx half a mug) Buy stores own as it is cheaper than miltons. The first time you need to do this, run the cycle twice to be sure it was cleared out.
My machine is eight years old and the first smelly signs were when it was about a year old, I do mainly 30 and 40 degree washes with and occasional 60.
I run the maintenance wash religiously ever 4 weeks and run a machine descaler such as oust thru every 4-6 months.
Hope this helps. Roni.
(ps don't be tempted to use bleach as it foams up and can cause more problems!!)

Smells like old smelly socks

this might be coming from the rubber door seal clean it all the way round make sure holes at bottom are not blocked and the rubber door seal is all clean. also clean the draw so there is no power left in there and it is all clean. also a good thing to do is run it though a cleaning cycle with normal detergent at max temperature that the machine can do. hope this helps.

Washer smelly musty and moldy. How can I get the smell to go away? Is there something we can take apart or clean to stop this smell. Not what you want to smell when you are trying to get fresh clean...

Mold & Smelly in Washer

Wash on hottest and longest cycle with regular laundry soap and a bottle of vinegar. After cycle, wash again with soap on hottest/longest cycle. This will clean your washer like new.

Kenmore front load HE washer odor

How old is your machine? Mine is 5 years old, and I just started to get a "sewage" smell in my laundry room this weekend. I disconnected the water return to the sewer line and discovered lots of gunk in the hose, and the connector to the machine was completely dark green. I'm going to replace the hose, and trying to figure out if there is some sort of filter.

We only use He detergents too, so I guess this is something that just happens over time.
