Question about Sony XM-2150GSX Car Audio Amplifier

2 Answers

The overcurrent light on my sony xplod amp (xm-2150gsx) comes on whenever i turn the volume up on my stereo, tried a larger gauge ground wire and that didnt work. Also this is happening on two separate amps (same model). The amp immediately went into protection mode with the larger ground and no subs connected. could a pinched or shorted power wire be the issue? some help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

OHM OUT SPEAKERS FOR 4 OHM OR HIGHER READING, IFTHATS NOT ISSUE MEASURE B+ for constant 12.3 or higher voltage. If low or varying purchase an after market add on capacitor kit. Finally if never produces audio you most likely have either shorted output transistors, fet's, or IC's, depending how the amp was designed. This should steer you in the right direction so let me know.... Experttech SAM

I got Sony Xplod XM-ZR704 700W 4/3/2-Channel Car Stereo Amplifier and 12" sub. it play good for continuous 2 hours but after that starts tripping and goes on off. i checked all wires and connections.

Amp is probably over heating. Make sure the ohm load of speaker is good for that amp. This amp is not really built to handle a bridged 2 ohm load. Make sure ground wire is clean and tight to the body chassis.

Overcurrent lights comes on whenever my amp is on

this can only mean 2 things, either your over working the amp, which means your amp is trying to push power that it don't have, and it's getting hot which is known as thermal mode. and the other reason can be that make sure amp rms. matches the rms. of your subs.

Amplifier keeps running overcurrent

sounds to me like you are overheating the amp, try down tuning the peak level of the amp, and also if there is anything around the amp clear it away, check if the fan is turning on, you may need to replace it,

Sony Xplod Amp

well you might want to try using 30 amp atc fuses instead of 10 amp fuses on your amp, because you are getting an overcurrent from your alternator then from your battery. I have the same amp and you will find that your subbs will hit better too. also check on your ground wire from your amp as this also will cause the RED light to come on. :)

I have an xploid 760 same amp wit ha 800 watt sub. eb=verything should work fin. but the same prob when i turn up the valume the overcurrent kicks on

use a bigger ground wire for amp and protect mode will stop clipping and shutting amp off also make sure power wire and ground wires aren't the same size ground bigger .............if this doesn't help change settings on amp to lower power
easiest way to set amp is (turn the knobs on amp all down turn up your system to the level you listen to normally and then set the amp knobs for bass turn knob slow to set properly but i think the ground needs to be bigger and maybe moved to a new location
hope this helped

Overcurrent comes on when i turn up the volume on my head unit

The over-current LED tells you that you're driving a lod lower than the amp is rated to drive. You either have the wrong speaker ohm load, a shorted wire or a defective speaker.

My sony xplod XM-2150GSX amp has a problen whenever i turn up the volume on my radio the amp turns on the current overload LED cAN enybody help me out i opened it but i just cant seem to find the problen...

Often this is related to speaker wiring. Make sure your speakers aren't below the minimum rated impedance for your amplifier; 2 ohms per channel, or minimum 4 ohms in bridged mode. If you have two 4-ohm subs, you can't run them both in bridged mode if they're wired in parallel. If you have a blown sub, it can cause this problem also.

Amp overcurrent problem

Disconnect all speaker wires from the speaker terminals of the amp and disconnect signal cables from the amp. If it powers up, the wiring needs to be checked. If it still shuts down (overcurrent), the amp likely has blown output transistors.
