If the lens is stuck out then you will find it is usually one of a few reasons.

1. Check the batteries. (obvious I know).
2. The camera has been dropped or knocked.
3. The camera has grit or dirt in the lens mechanism.

Providing the batteries are ok then 2 and 3 usually mean a professional repair. The lenses tend not to be something that the average home user can remove and take apart. The cost of repair also might be more than the camera value so you will need to find a good repair shop near you and get a quote.

Examine the lens carefully. you will see that the outer lens is out of line with the inner lens. . hold the camera firmly with one hand using the fingers of the second hand firmly nudge the outer lens back in line. reinsert battery and test.

The same exact thing happened to me when I accidentally dropped my camera on the ground. My dad actually fixed it for me. I cannot exactly remember what he did, but I know this can be fixed! =]

He did something with the lense, not sure, I wish I could remember!

Sony dsc-w55 fell and the lens is stuck

Use bit more force to push or pull the lens as lens has been damaged. If applying bit more force lens goes to working, u saved $$$ otherwise, new lens option is always available at Sony repair shops.

Lens Stuck

Same problem guys!!! LENS HAD GOT STUCK - ABOUT ONE THIRD OUT after a knock. After lots of playing, and tapping and batteries in and out tried the whole twisting and pulling thing whilst turning off and on.

After a few minutes it came free and whole lens popped out. I then had to twist the outer part of the lens to straighten that up and allow it to fully retract. Works a treat now!

PS Tried the Sony online chat support - useless!!!!

Sony DSC W50 - lens stuck

The lens mechanism is wrecked. I guess a repair will cost nearly as much as new camera- get your 'friend' to treat you.
