G'day,
I have a Motorola SBG900 cable modem that offers wireless network, and I'm trying to get a TP-Link TL-WR841ND to connect to act as a bridge to the SBG900 wireless network.
The TP-Link finds my Motorola wireless network and appears to have no difficulty connecting to it (no errors reported when doing so) but when connecting the laptop to the LAN points on the TP-Link I have no internet access.
Info:
- My broadband cable entry is connected to the SBG900 (and works OK for the directly connected PC)
- I can connect OK to the SBG900 using a wireless laptop (and has full network connectivity)
- I believe I have correct WEP keys (to enable the TP-Link to connect to the Motorola SBG900 cable modem) configured (same wep key as the wireless laptop that connects OK)
- The laptop (Win XP Pro - SP2) has settings of "obtain IP auto" and "obtain DNS auto".
- There appears to be significant data passed between the laptop and the TP-Link (network connections see many Mbs of data transferred between them)
- I have updated the TP-Link to the latest firmware
SBG900 info:
WAN IP 60.224.128.48
LAN IP 192.168.0.1
WAN:
Static IP = 60.224.128.48
WAN default gateway = 60.224.128.1
TP-Link TL-WR841ND info:
Default IP = 192.168.1.1
Sorry to be a network newbie but it's frustrating me no end, so any help would be appreciated...
Cheers,
Andrew

you must define DNS and Gateway!!! Go on My Network Places, right click, again right click on your network, select properties, TCP/IP and in there enter needed IP addresses!!!
SOURCE: Connect Laptop to PC desktop which has cable connection.
YOU WILL NEED TO GET A WIRELESS ROUTER TO BE ABLE TO USE THE LAPTOP WIRELESS, iT IS A VERY EASY SET UP AND CONNECT THE DESKTOP WIRED AND THE LAPTOP WIRELESS TO A WIRELESS ROUTER.

Optionally, try holding the reset button for 20s and access through wireless if you want.

The default username and password for most routers I have seen is admin and admin provided you have not changed it. All are lowercase letters. Also I suggest you use the WPA or WPA2+ encryption if its available. The WEP is easy to crack wirelessly and I had a gala time cracking my neighbor's router in less than 3 hours!
Testimonial: "thank you very much even tought the default doesn't work because it doesn't have a default gateaway it says 0.0.0.0"
