One morning i got into my car and my cd player wasn't working. It's a sony Xplode deck. a few years old, pretty basic. The light is on, the cd is running, but none of the buttons work accept for eject and off. if i put the cd back in it starts playing but i can't hear anything. Is the whole deck messed?

You probably have some corrosion in the deck, more than likely on the leads of the output ic. If you are lucky, you may be able to get away with just cleaning the corrosion from the board. This can best be done with isopropyl alcohol and a stiff brush.
The unit still getting power?Dose the unit have a tape deck and it is still working?Yes,than CD player section the motor that help the laser eye arm reader to moved and to read the CD disc it is dead. This thing it is out of productions a long time ago.Parts and serviced priced of the Tech. will cost the same as a new unit or could even pass it.If even the Tech. still can find parts for it at all.Just used the Radio and Tape deck sections,if u still have cassett tapes at all. This thing not worth fixing, pretty cheap to buy a whole new unit CD/Tape deck together this day like $60-70 bucks.
the unit has a 10 amp fuse on the back of it check to see if that is the problem if it is replace it with a replacement 10A fuse that is provided with your car
If the Sony front end unit (stereo) has RCA jacks (Left and Right) in the back it's an input to the Xplode amp. If that's right then the Subwoofer putputs should plug or wire into the Xplode amp. I haven't hooked these up for some time but try a search on Youtube with the units you describe I'm more than 90% sure that there are videos there.
You have put the remote antenna wire to the remote turn on of the amplifier. The radio cuts off the power to the "power antenna" when you switch to a different mode... so your amplifier is now losing the turn on signal it requires to stay on.
Simple 2 minute fix.

does it only happen when you try playing the same cd? if so, the cd is the problem. if not, how long do you hold the reset button down for? try 3 seconds and see if that helps. if not, get the cd deck fixed or replaced.
I guess is your using a CD that was made from a blank one.. Try putting in a CD that you didn't burn.. and see if it works
Some CD players does not place burnt CD's
Hope i helped
