The audio should not work if the lamp has expired, but it would be the best place to start. The led flashing 6 times is a complete other issue, and needs the thermal fuse changed.

3 times standby red light blinking shows that lamp cover has not been placed back properly after lamp replacement. Make sure lamp cover, (the first thing that you removed to replace lamp in tv) is fixed securely then turn tv On.
If its model number is KF-50WE610, had you replaced its Lamp recently? If Lamp is replaced, please check Lamp cover/ door that is not seated properly, make sure its fixed securely. 3 times light flashing shows Lamp cover error.
Hey there,
I've had my Sony KF-50WE610 for approx. 4years now and have just experienced the prob you described (though I didn't think to count the number of red blinks). I called Sony TV technical support (888-772-7669, #3 for TV/digital cameras, #1 for TV, then #1 again I think). They said that if the power/standby light blinks 5x, that means there's something wrong with the lamp driver and service will be required. Needless to say, I better go home and count my red blinks! Good luck, I hope this helps a bit. Have a happy and safe holiday!
Jeff, did you look at the Sony web site? They had a problem with 9 different TV models that were from 2003 and 2004, KF-42WE610, KF-50WE610, KF-60WE610 and 6 other models. This is what it states: It haas come to our attention that a limited number of Grand WEGA rear projection TV's may exhibit warping to the lamp access door. In rare cases, some additional components may also become damaged as a result. and so on........ You probably have some components melted on the inside around the lamp. I have a 42 inch and I just replaced the lamp at Christmas and the door was melted shut. This is the second lamp that I have replaced, the door was starting to melt the first time. They never sent me anything about this problem, and as of today I am still trying to work something out with them. The repair shop who has it told me that it can't be repaired. The parts that are melted are not in stock and they don't make them anymore. They are supposed to get back with me and make me some kind of offer. They will only fix this problem through March 31, 2009.
Hi,
Go to Instuction Manual of Sony KP-50WE610 page-13, there you will see details where is compartment of lamp in tv and how to open it.
Need further info, let me know.
This could be a lamp issue. The easiest way to be sure is to take out th lamp and check for any irregularities on it e.g. white or black vein like looking marks , a buuble at the end of the shaft or a broken fillament.
If cannot spot anything this could rather be a Ballast ( lamp's powersupply ) that has gone faulty and will have be replaced.
