Your wet/dry vac came with 2 filters.
Paper for dust and dirt and Foam for wet/dry use.
If you left the paper filter on and tried to vacuum a wet surface, you most likely shredded your paper filter and clogged the outlet vent above your water shut-off float.
You should always use a filter to prevent clogging of the cyclonic impeller blades next to the motor. When extracting water or moisture you will need to use the Foam filter to prevent water from collecting in your fan blade area which then creeps to the motor eventually causing it to seize up.

SOURCE: Filter in Hoover Wind Tunnel Vacuum

Definitely not. Do not use water or any liquids to clean it. Te normal use life is 2-3 years keeping it maintained. You can clean it dry with the dust brush from your vac attachments. place in a plastic bag and tap it some folks even us an air compressor to blow out the impacted dirt. you will only want to use the Hoover brand, other generic brands dont fit as well.

SOURCE: water leaking from out of the heppa filter

Reasons for that to happen:
a) You have tilted the vac while vacuuming
b) Used the Rainbow without separator (basket like thing on the bottom of the motor)
c) Overfilled the rainbow tank with water (may have happened when shampooing with AquaMate)

Clean and install back the separator, remove HEPA, Set the Rainbow on empty water pan (with HEPA removed) turn it on for a while so everything will dry. Install new HEPA.

You will have to get a new HEPA filter (you can find them HERE)

Good Luck,
Rocky

SOURCE: suction problem

check the intake hose at the bottom it may be clogged.try blowing into the long hose if you can't blow through it then you have a clog somewhere between the long hose and your intake hose at the bottom.the intake hose is the somewhat clear hose that comes up from behind the base at the bottom.you will see it on the backside

SOURCE: dirt devil purpose for pets vacuum quit working

The motor overheats from the filter being clogged underneath the canister or the canister or both are clogged-without the air flow the motor overheats and shuts off as a precautionary measure.By letting the motor cool off it will start again but will turn off shortly if the filters are not properly cleaned.Hope this helps everyone.

My S7580 vacuum cleaner is very noisy

Hey, this is Jeremy with Crucial Vacuum,

To remedy a noisy vacuum cleaner there are typically four main areas to check to restore proper functionality. By following the steps below it should be back to normal in no time!

1. Dirty Filters- If your vacuum has suddenly become very loud, check the filter, as it may be dirty. When the filters on a vacuum become excessively dirty, the vacuum may start running louder because it is working hard to create suction. If your filters are dirty, your vacuum is likely not suctioning appropriately, either. To fix this problem, simply remove the filters in your vacuum, rid them of the dust and debris and rinse them out with warm water.

2. Clog- Clogs are often the reason as to why your vacuum cleaner is being extra noisy. While vacuuming, something may get sucked up such as a button or a small toy, for example. Additionally, the clog may be making the vacuum work harder. Check all tubes and hoses in the vacuum to make sure there are no obstructions.

3. Broken Brush Bearing- When a brush bearing breaks, the vacuum cleaner gets loud and starts to vibrate. To remedy the problem, remove the brush and replace it

4. Broken Fan- The fan in the motor of your vacuum may be broken, causing the vacuum to run louder than normal. When dirt runs through the motor of the vacuum, it can collect on the fan, causing it to break. If the fan in your vacuum motor is broken, it will need to be replaced. This is a slightly more tricky process and may require you to bring in your vacuum to a repair shop to have the part replaced.

How to clean filters for dyson vacuum cleaner

Hi Seema, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC27 Total Clean has two filters, engineered to last the lifetime of the machine in normal use. These should be washed at least once every 3 months using cold water without detergent, as shown in the video below. Allow at least 24 hours for both filters to dry completely before replacing them.

I hope this helps, but if you'd like any further guidance you're welcome to contact us directly by calling 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

How do you clean the HEPA filter on the Dyson DC14 Animal Vacuum

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC14 has two filters, a pre-motor filter and a post-motor filter. Both are engineered to last the lifetime of the vacuum in normal use, but only the pre-motor filter requires maintenance.

We recommend washing the pre-motor filter at least once every 3-6 months using cold water without detergent, as shown in the video below. Always ensure it's completely dry before replacing it - this could take at least 12 hours.

The HEPA post-motor filter does not require any maintenance. We advise against attempting to wash or clean it in any way as this could cause damage. It's normal for the filter to discolour over time, as it's engineered to capture the carbon dust from the motor brushes. This will not affect performance.

I hope this helps, but if you'd like any further information you're welcome to contact our experts directly at 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

I bought my first craftsman 9 gallong wet/dry vac - i do not know how to operate it and I don't want to break anything. I have a pamphlet but it is still confusing. can I pour a few gallons of water into...

Hello again.
When it says wet vacuuming, it means that the vacuum will pick up water, not dispense it. When you are using the vacuum to pick up water, you'll need to remove the paper filter element under the motor, inside the canister, to avoid ruining it. When the filter is removed, you will see a plactic ball inside a cage under the motor. It's purpose is to float up on the surface of the water being vacuumed up, and prevent the motor from getting water into it. You'll be able to tell when the canister is full; the noise the vacuum makes will change and sound higher. Also, the suction at the hose will quit. At that point, shut off the vacuum and drain the water.
Be sure to replace the paper filter when you swap back from liquids to solids.

Vacuum getting hot in filter area

That's not abnormal, unless it's getting very hot. Have you changed the filter recently? If the filter is blocked it will get hotter than normal. the filter should be changed every 4 to six weeks of normal usage.

I have a 10 gallon Shop.Vac 3.0 but I don't have the instruction booklet. Do I take off the pleated "paper" filter to vacuum up water? Do I use the vac with no filter for liquid?

Yes you should remove the filter for liquids. If the filter is not removed the internal float stop will not operate correctly. This will lead to the liquid being drawn up into the impeller and around the motor.
However I still like to have something in place because in most instances the liquid you vacuum up will not be without some solids. So I like to use a foam insert. Places like Home Depot carries a universal insert that works great.
Hope that helps.
