There three area's of concern, magnetron, "heats food" the high voltage diode, "sometimes crack" the high voltage capacitor, "usually shorts"

If you know DMM then only you can fix it. Check magnetron continuity and the transformer continuity. Mostly magnetron blows up. Danger microwave has 5000 volts in it Thanks Discharge capacitors

the microwave doesnt heat or cook popcorn

the magnatron has blown they are very expensive to repair i suggest you buy a new microwave

this is something you should probably call a repair technician for, due to the danger of the componentry.

Usually in ther case of this problem, even a technician will advise you to replace the unit, in the minds of cost effectiveness and safety...

If the stove was on without the hood fan's being on, it could have put too much heat in the "innards" of the microwave. It may have opened the thermostat or thermal fuse located inside - either on the chassis of the microwave or or the magnetron. It will look something like the one in the attached photo.
