I have a BP3 external Next G wireless modem which connects to my desk top PC via USB port. I have a wireless HP printer in another room and a wireless portable HP PC. I also have a D-Link DI-524 router. I would like to connect all this so as to have a wireless network in the house. However my modem only connects to the PC via USB. How do I do this????. Thanks

You can purchase a usb wireless dongle and attach to the PC. From then onwards you can set up a wireless network without connecting the usb cable for the router. The dongle will enable wireless capabilities on the pc. The only thing left is to have all devices running in the same workgroup.

Im thinking , it might be the settings of your router....or might be the connection -Connect your modem to the WAN/Internet port of your router -Then connect your computer to any of the 4 ports which has 1-4 on it -Make sure both modem and the router are on -open an internet explorer (regardless if theres an internet connection or none) -In the address bar typein 192.168.0.1 -Login window will appear leave the password blank then hit ok -Click on Run wizard -Just click on next and do whatever necessary changes you want there -Usually it was set to dynamic Ip address -then next and click on clone MAC address -You can also set you wireless settings, ssid would be the name of your wireless network -Channel you can select 6 or 11 -Next set your password to WEP enabled -WEP encyption should be 64bit -then you can think of any key that would server as your password, but remember you can use all the numbers but with letters you can only use A-F.. this is not case sensitive -or you have the option not to put any security of your wireless, but this is not recommended -Then lastly restart it. -once its done clikc on the status tab on the upper section of the window -and check if under WAN you have an IP address, if you have, then it means your good to go to check you internet connection if none just simply click on DHCP release then renew til you get IP address..
Hope this will help... (-_-)

We have cable internet provided by Virgin. I am accessing the internet by plugging the ethernet cable dirctly into my laptop rather than via my DI524. Have just read a post that says I have to be connected...

If you can connect to the internet using the Ethernet cable on your laptop then the cable modem is configured correctly.
If you want to connect to the Internet using the D-Link wireless router then first you need to configure the D-Link wireless settings and then configure the wireless card in your laptop with the D-Link's wireless settings. Remove the Ethernet from the laptop and connect it to the WAN/Internet port on the D-Link wireless router.

Dlink DI524 wireless problem: cannot access the router

If the Router is new proceed to Step 1. If the Router is used power on and press and hold the Reset button for about 10 seconds. It is located next to where the power cord is plugged in. Use either a pen or paper clip to push reset button.

Step 1. Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port located on the Cable / DSL modem and the other end to the WAN port on your D-Link DI524 wireless Router. The WAN LED light will illuminate to indicate proper connection.

Step 2. Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to LAN Port 1 on the back panel of the DI-524 and the other end to the network adapter in the computer you are using to
configure the DI-524. The LED light for LAN Port 1 illuminates to indicate proper
connection.

Step 3. Once all pieces ar connected. Open your Web browser and type http://192.168.0.1 into the URL address box then press ENTER. Once the log-on pop-up screen appears type admin for the user-name and leave the password blank then click ok.

Step 4. Once you have logged in, the Home screen will appear and you should see a box called RUN WIZARD in the middle of the screen. Click that box and follow the steps.

Setup Step 1 - Click Next
Setup Step 2 - Create Password and click Next
Setup Step 3 - Choose Time Zone and click Next
Setup Step 4 - Setup wizard will try to auto-detect your Internet connection type.
Setup Step 5 - Select your Internet Connection. You will be prompted to select the type of Internet connection for your router. More than likely it will be Dynamic IP Address. Click Next.
Setup Step 6 - Click the “Clone MAC Address” button to automatically copy the MAC address of the network adapter in your computer. You can also manually type in the MAC address. Click Next.
Setup Step 7 - The default wireless settings for your 802.11g wireless network are: SSID = default Channel = 6. You can change the SSID name to whatever you like. This will be the name of your wireless network. Click Next.
Step 8 - If you wish to use encryption for your 802.11g network, the DI-524 is capable of two levels of wireless encryption - 64-bit and 128-bit. By default the encryption is disabled. You can change the encryption settings for more secure wireless communication. If you choose to use encryption, you will need to write down the encryption key so that you can connect your laptop or pc via wireless connection. Click Next
Setup Step 9 - Your is complete. Click Restart to save and reboot your router.
Setup Step 10 - Click Close to complete your setup.

Setup Step 11 - You will be returned to the Home tab. Close this window and wait for the Router to finish rebooting. Then relaunch your Web browser (i.e., Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator), to link to your favorite Web site to test your Internet connection.

D Link DIR 635 router conection internet

Normally, all ruters are hubs as well. if you want to connect it as a hub only; try connecting only the ports minus the WAN port that goes to the DSL modem. In this case the router will behave just like a hub.
