Hi. This may sound silly, but the most likely reason the upper thread doesn't pick up the bobbin thread is that the needle is in backwards. (Sounds silly, but it's true!)

Needle shanks have a flat side and that flat side has to go in a particular way for your machine. With most modern machines, the flat side goes to the rear, facing away from you. Check your manual to be sure.

The second most likely reason is that your needle may be bent. Check that your needle is straight (or just use a new one).

Hope this helps!

Happy Sewing,

Robbie

Hello, I recently purchased a brother lx3817 sewing machine and it works but doesn’t stitch, what could be the problem

hi Desiree.
this is all i could find out.
There could be several things that could cause the machine not to pick up the bobbin thread.

  • The upper thread could be tangled.
Remove the thread completely from the machine.
The correct size spool cap should be used for the size of the thread spool.
Re-thread the machine according to the directions in the manual.
One Point Advice Place a spool of thread on a spool pin.
One Point Advice Upper threading
  • Remove the bobbin and make sure the bobbin is threaded properly in the shuttle race.
Remove any loose threads or lint in the shuttle race.
One Point Advice Installing a bobbin into a bobbin case
  • You could be holding the needle thread too tight.
Hold the thread lightly to keep the end from going down into the shuttle.
  • The needle could be thread incorrectly.
Thread the needle eye from the front to the back.
  • The needle could be bent or improperly inserted.
Install a new needle with the flat side of the needle facing the back.

On a brother ce 4000 the bobbin case keeps moving and slipping out of place

There is an adjustment on the upper left and lower right of the case. The upper adjustment is to stop the upper part of the case from sliding out. It turns a little clockwise to do this.
The lower right adjustment keeps the case from rotating and to keep it from falling out. To adjust do this:
Lower right adjustment - Loosen screw on left side of adjustment.
Move adjustment upwards while trying to rotate the bobbin case. It should come to a point where it will not rotate but don't make it super tight against the bobbin case. Just tight enough to allow a thread to move under the adjustment part and the case where they touch.

LS-1520 Brother sewing machine hook pick thread up takes it around half way and gets stuck...any ideas. the timing seems to be right??!!

try changing needles
clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for loose thread or lint
make sure the bobbin is inserted into the bobbin case correctly--if the
machine won't pick the thread up from the bobbin correctly take the bobbin
out of the case & turn it around & try it that way.

My brother pe150 embroidery machine does not pick up bottom thread and wont sew

try changing the needle
rethread the machine--use every thread guide
make sure the bobbin is not warped
make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly in the case
it's very possible that the timing of the machine is off & the machine would need to be checked at a sewing machine shop

How do you change the timing on brother pe150 as it wont pick up bottom thread

Full details on how to adjust the timing appear here in my Brother PE150 blog. You will need a few basic tools including the stubby screwdriver that came with your machine.

I have a Brother sewing machine and whenever I try to pick up the bottom thread (or when I try to sew), the upper thread gets caught around the bobbin case causing a huge, knotted mess. It's just all...

Check your top tension dial setting is on 5, as this sounds like the thread is not in tension fully so is looping up around the rotary hook and not being held back by the tension device. Is the pressure foot lowered (this turns the tension on) fully and is the thread through the tension discs correctly. Lower the pressure foot and pull the top thread from below the tension dial, it should feel firm to pull, if it comes out easy, its not undertension, device could be faulty and machine will need to be serviced.

Also, check that the bobbin case is fully inserted into the rotary hook in the correct position, bobbin is in and rotating the right way and thread is into the tension spring fully.

If you have the manual pull it out, and carefully check the threading up instructions and follow on your machine - it is probably one of these things causing the jamming.

I have been using my pe150 without problems than sat down today and started a pattern and it will not sew I keep getting upper or lower thread broken, they are okay I have changed the needle also. I don't...

sounds like you may have a burr, probably on the bobbin case will be very small can be sanded off, caused when the needle hits the bobbin case could also be on the walking foot

Brothers pe150 embroidery machine will not sew

If you tighten up your needle thread, reduce the tension of the needle thread.
For embroidery, and zig-zag, and because the needle makes side movements, it needs more needle thread.
So try to keep you needle thread not very tight,
and tight up your bobbin case tension more, so that the two threads meet under the meterial.

You need to adjust your top tension and maybe your bottom tension ( the little screw on the bobbin cover) Also check your needle and make sure it's straight.
