I just installed new ink cartridges. Now my printer refuses to acknowledge the ink cartridges. It will not print a test page.Shows a picture that says cartridge is missing or unknown. What do I do next?
At a guess you've bought a compatible generic cartrige. I had a similar problem different printer.
I had to by a genuine cartrige, worked fine. Contacted the generic cartrige provider, explained the problem. Returned cartriges and got refund no problem.
It looks like the generic cartrige makers are seeing some solutions to chipped cartridges but not all.

Check
the display for an error message. If the display reads "Clearing paper
from printer," the engine has detected a jam and is attempting to eject
the jammed pages automatically. These pages will often be blank.
Check
the display for "Performing PRINT/STOP TEST" or "Performing SERVICE
TEST." Either of these messages indicates that the printer is going
through a test procedure that may eject blank pages.
Reduce
the amount of paper in the input tray if the printer is feeding
multiple blank sheets at a time. The printer will pull extra pages
through if the input tray is overfilled.
Replace
the paper in the input tray with the correct size if needed. If the
4600 printer detects the paper as an incorrect size for the print job, it may eject the paper without printing anything on it.
Replace
the ink cartridges if certain colors are blank on the page. Replace the
black cartridge if printing a black text document that is coming out
blank. The printer may attempt to print even if the ink level is low or
empty, but will unable to print anything on the page, causing it to
come out blank.
Remove
the sealing tape from newly installed cartridges. The tape covers the
print heads and should be removed before installing the cartridges. If
the tape is left on, it will prevent ink from getting on the pages as
they print.
Press
the "Check mark" button on the control panel to enter the printer menu.
Run a diagnostic so the printer can attempt to determine the cause of
the blank pages printing. Press the up or down arrow to select
"Diagnostics." Press the "Check mark" button. Press the "Down" arrow to
highlight "PQ Troubleshooting." Press the "Check mark" button. The
printer runs a diagnostic and returns to a ready state when done.
This can happen to cartridges with attached print heads. All cartridges are weighed and tested before leaving the factory so lack of ink isn't the problem. It usually has to do with the print head of the cartridge not having any ink to feed it. This happens because cartridges are kept flat or upside down for weeks or months before being used and the ink settles away from the print head. The easiest remedy is to open the box and stand the cartridge upright for a few minutes before using. Then get a damp paper towel, fold it into quarters and sit the cartridge print head down onto it. Hold the cartridge down to the damp paper towel for three minutes. This will help pull the ink out of the print heads, priming them and getting them ready to print. Finally, install the cartridge into your printer and print a few test pages.
Uninstall and re-install the software for the printer and see if that changes anything. AND also, you say it will always produce a checksheet but anything else is blank? Can you do a simple printer test page? This way you will know if the colors are working.
Calibrate your new blank ink cartridge, have some nozzle check, cleaning check, and printer alignment. This are procedure that new ink cartridge will have to calibrate before you use. Epson printer are very sensitive when capable of changing ink cartridge. Unlink HP directly work without any print test because the cartridge head and ink join together, Epson with ink cartridge and the head separate. Have some test on it at Printer Maintenance. I'm sure 100% works on it. Good luck!
have you tried to replace the ink cartridge? if ink cartridge is new yet it's not printing, try to print a test page by going to Start>Control Panel>Printers and Faxes, then right click on the printer icon with a check mark on it, select properties.. then click on "Print test page".. if it prints or loads a paper but it's blank, then it means the printer is working, it may have run out of ink..
If it doesn't print, or doesn't load a paper, most likely there's a problem with the software for the printer.. you may have to re-install the printer drivers..
You may clean the cartridge by following the steps given below:
1. Remove the cartridge or cartridges from the printer. 2. Get a damp paper towel. 3. Set the ink cartridge right side up on the damp paper towel so that the ink nozzles are against the towel and hold the cartridge in this position for about 15 seconds. 4. Now wipe the print head (on the bottom where the ink comes out) across in one direction only (left to right) until it looks clean. 5. Next dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure that the ink is flowing. 6. Snap the cartridges back into the printer.
Next, I'd like you to attempt this printer self-test by following the steps given below:
1. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
2. Press and hold the button on the printer panel.
3. Reconnect the power cord and keep holding the button on the printer panel until the printer starts to pull paper.
4. The printer should now print a test page. Please note that the test is continuous. To stop the test, disconnect the power cord.
The self-test should at least print out a set of either black or color bars, if not both (if you have a printer with both color and black installed simultaneously). Should this test fail, try it again without cartridges installed. If the self-test still fails to take paper in and make sounds like the carrier is moving across the paper, this is a hardware issue, and the printer will require service. If the self-test completes without any cartridges installed, run the self-test again with only the color cartridge installed. (If you have both black and color cartridges, after this test, run the test again with just the black cartridge installed.) If you find that either cartridge causes the self-test to fail, please let us know.
If the self-test prints, but has lines or smudges or other print quality issues, let us know.
