My camera did the same....it turned out to be a sticking zoom switch. With the camera turned OFF... move the zoom button ON TOP ( above the view finder) of the camera to the left and right about 20 or 30 times... then turn the camera on and try it.... very simple... but it worked for me :o)

This sounds like a physical problem with the switch, but you will have to disassemble it to see what's going on. There are videos on utube that demonstrate the process, if you elect to try that. If you elect to have it serviced, get an estimate first, as they can be fairly expensive to fix. Wish I had better news.
Did it work before? If so then it sounds like the focus motor/screw jack has failed and needs replacing. With some JVCs you can replace the whole lens system and a new one will re-calibrate itself, but I'd have to check on this model.

Will not eject!!! I have put in a fully charged battery and tried to eject it, it will not open at all. Please help me out if you can.
