Keyboard Problems on my Dell Inspiron 6400,

Can I do anything to fix the the problems I'm having? When I type my cursor jumps to different area's from where I'm typing, and I can only backspace, or go forward one stroke at a time. When I hold the space bar down it won't move fast, like it should. I have a Dell Inspiron 6400. Is it possible my keyboard is bad? Can they be replaced on a lap top? Or is there some setting I can change? Thank you in advance for any help you can offer me.

Click the Windows "Start" button or press the "Windows" key. The "Start" menu opens. Type "Cursor blink" in the "Search programs and file" text box. A list opens. Click "Change Cursor Blink Rate." The "Keyboard Properties" window opens. Click the "Speed" tab. A list of options appears. The "Cursor Blink Rate" section shows a "Cursor Blink Rate" slider displaying a range from "None" to "Fast." When I am typing the curser will all of a sudden jump to a different area on the screen. I am not touching any other area of the keyboard when this happens.

Try redownloading the driver for the mouse and see if that fixes the problem.

Cursor jumps around when typing. It will go anywhere in the document. Happens in all programs.

What type of keyboard you are using (PS/2 or USB)? Is that a regular keyboard or multimedia keyboard? You need to isolate the problem. Please follow the steps below.

If you are using a USB keyboard:

1. Connect the keyboard into different USB ports of the computer.
2. Connect the keyboard into different computer.
3. Try using different keyboard to see if the problem will persist.

If that is a wireless keyboard:

1. Try replacing the battery
2. Connect the receiver into different USB ports.

Check the keyboard settings:

1. Go to the Control Panel > Keyboard
2. Adjust the keyboard settings and speed.

Hope it helps and have a great day!
