SOURCE: dryer wouldn't shut off except with door open, now it won't run

More than likely the cycle timer is bad. Have it replaced and that should put you back in business. Hope this helps. Please re-post with up dates. Good luck. Thanks cj2176.

SOURCE: timer is slow or sticks. and dryer keeps running

Sounds like you need as new timer motor. They often get gummed up and slow down or become inoperable. Check with a local dealer or repair shop for particular model.

Whirlpool coin operated dryer doesn't turn off and will keep running until you open the door.

If it is a timing cam, then it will be motor driven, a bit like the turntable in a microwave.
Check the motor is running as it should. That clunk you heard may have been the motors gearbox falling to bits.

I have a kenmore dryer model #796.81172210 it continues to run until you open the door and will start up if you close it.is it the door sensor

The door switch is working correctly. The drum should turn off and the heater is switched off when the door has been opened and they restart when the door is closed. If you are saying the timer has run down so there is no time remaining and the drum is still turning then the timer is failing to switch off these items.

Won't stop, have to manually open door

Sounds like a bad timer. Your dryer is a Whirlpool product.so a replacement timer should be easy to locate. If the timer is advancing but the dryer won't stop, the problem could be the control unit. Run another load of clothes and take notice of the timer's position. If it doesn't run out, then it's very likely the timer. The video below shows step by step instructions for replacing the timer unit.

The dryer will not run its cycle, the drum does not turn nor does the fan run. However, the timer counts down as though it is running a load. Door is tightly closed and temperature in room is not below 32...

Won't shut off unless the door is opened

Usually the only thing that will stop the dryer is to open the door or turn the timer to the off position.

Hotpoint Dryer Heater stays on when door is opened

Strange. Heaters usually shut down with the spinning drum when door is open. If you check the schematic for unit you can check to see if in fact this is correct operation. Attached site usually has schematics for appliances. You might want to check. Search Over 2 1 Million Appliance Parts

Roper dryer won't shut off

The timer motor isn't moving the timer. You'll need to replace the timer. Turning the timer **** to off should stop the machine.
Exception: If the shutting the door automatically starts the motor, then the start switch/relay is probably shorted.
