Ok guys this is my own opinion on descalling and I have to tell you firstly I have been repairing saeco machine for over 8 years so I think I know a bit about them by now. Scheduled Descalling to me is a waste of time and money, now I'M NOT saying to "never descale your saeco" but when that descale light or word comes up on your machine it does not necessarily mean your machine needs to be descaled. Your Saeco machine DOES NOT have a magical sensor inside that tells you there is calcium build up inside the boiler. All Saeco machine use a timer device built into the Electronic main board. As a pre set number of coffee's are made, Saeco has set a timer to bring up either a light or Symbol on screen to tell you your machine is in need of a descale. Now with different countries , States and living conditions not all water outlets consist of the same water purities, so how can Saeco say at a certain time your machine needs descalling? . I can only go by experience where I repair machines in Australia (Melbourne) and I have had many machines fail due to being constantly descalled. How many of you have been having a good run from your machine until the day you thought you had better off descale your magic deluxe as it hadn't been done in a while. Upon descalling the machine you hear and see water leaking from the unit and Bang , the machine stops dead , or if your very lucky you shut the machine off just in time before the circuit board gets wet and you send the Deluxe to Saeco and now your up for a new boiler and service.
What had happened is that in time the seals of the boiler have broken down and the calcium lining the boilers internal walls have been sealing the boiler from leaking. Upon cleaning the boiler , calcium is removed and the seals don't hold and you know the rest. I have personally given a machine to a family member and told them never to descale just to see what happens ( will the boiler go , or water stop flowing due to blockages? ) I can honestly tell you that this machine was made in 1996 and I had replaced the boiler 8 years ago , to this day the machine has not missed a beat and no leaks on boiler. Ah they hardley use it I hear you say , quite the contrary , Italian family, machine used every day and even taken once in a while to their local social gatherings making coffees for over 30 people. I also have a customer who every so often after 2 years will come back for a new boiler fitted ( machine used in pannel beating shop ) I told him to try not doing any descaling until he could see any water flow restrictions. It's been over 3 years now and I havent seen the machine back yet but I do time to time come across him and ask how the Saeco is going , he says "all is well". Now not doing a descale at all is madness as I have had many blocked or semi clogged boilers due to high calcium deposits ( expecially around the beach coast areas ) But if you feel that your machine is pumping a little less water and the brewer is clean form any blockages then a well deserved descale is probably needed. With older machines you only need to reset the descale light or display if not needed. With other types like Saeco Incanto you need to only go through the descale process without the additive or cleaning fluid introduced into the water tank and decsale will reset.I hope I have shed some light on this issue and I'm not trying to say Saeco are pulling the wool over your eyes when it comes to descaling. I am going by my experiences only and what I have seen during my time with these machines. Enjoy your Coffee.
ιn order to proceed with decaling of the espresso machine you need to have the solution appropriate for decaling an espresso machine.
Different brands of espresso machines, like Krups, Saeco, Gaggia e.t.a. have their own brands of decaling solutions. You should know that all of these are similar products so you can use them in all different bands if you don't have the one of you specific brand without any problem. So if you have Krups machine and you can only find Saeco decaling solution you can use it with the same results.
One thing you should have in mind Never use any Vinegar as a decaling solution since this will destroy some parts of the machines not instantly but in long term since vinegar is corrosive to this parts.
