Question about 3Com NBX 3102 IP Phone

My 3Com 3102 handset was working yesterday and today it's reading "Waiting for DHCP Server...Attempting Layer 3 Discovery". Is this an equipment issue or a line issue?

Hello.

NCP stands for Network Call Processor. There is a problem with communication. Since your server is running, reset your router (disconnect power, wait a few minutes, then reconnect) that supports your IP phone.

On the web interface, use
1 Click System Maintenance > Purge Data.
2 Click Purge Database
This ll do fact reset.

Depending on the mode the phone is in, it may be only a layer 2 device - meaning it just broadcasts at layer 2 to find the NBX and once discovered, uses layer 2 for all communication.

No network problems 3com phones can't get connected to dhcp


Assuming you are talking about remote phones, you need to program the NCP (call processor) IP into the phones manually or add option 187 to your DHCP scope. The phones are able to DHCP the just also need to know what the IP address of the phone system to connect to is. If the phones are on your local network then this is all unnecessary. They work at layer 2 locally and don't need to use an IP address or DHCP.

If the phones are only 6-8 months old you should be calling 3Com. those phones have a 1 year warranty and once you register them they will help you troubleshoot and replace them if needed. Can you provide more detail? Do you have any network issues while this is happening? Does speakerphone work but the handset doesn't?

Speaker works but handset does not. replaced


Make sure to use a new handset cord as well. Also, make sure the handset is plugged into the handset jack under the phone. The 3102 phone has a headset jack that will not work with the handset. There is also a button mapped by default in the upper right corner that toggles from handset to headset. If the light is on, then it is set for headset and the handset won't work.

NBX 3102 Headset jack stops working


You should be using a plantronics a-10 interface cable if you are using hardwire headsets. get rid of the m-20 amplifiers. I support 280 of these phones and the best solution is to replace the phone. Power cycling the phone will help for a while but the problem will come back.

I had the same problem since a bought it last week and I was going crazy. Install this firmware and everything will work fine:

Roll back phone software


The phone is in a continuous because it is trying to connect to the NBX. You need to make sure it is on the same network as the NBX. Also, within the NBX you need to make sure Auto-Discovery is enabled. You also need to check how many group 2 licenses you have, as this phone requires one to run on the NBX.
