Hi I purchased this Acer Aspire 3100 laptop in November. It was a Christmas gift so it wasn't even opened until December! The last several weeks, off and on, the screen acts up. It is like the old picture tube tv's when the picture tube is ready to go. Vertical and horizontal lines and colored waves going through it as well. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

And that's not a new feature? what you're experiencing is pre video chip failure mode, OR the lcd screen is totally unhappy.

Tv/media/volume buttons
if you mean the buttons on the left side of keyboard.
most of the time, it's windows problem.
try to reload/re-install windows first, if it still not working, it;s mean something wrong with that button.
