I havew an old troy bilt tuffey tiller i think 1987 vintage with a serial number stamped on the transmission of x0008653 with a tecumseh engine h30 35387s serial no 80900
it has sat for a while most serious problem is the transmission oil leaks from the rear tiller tine shaft
i tried to take it apart got the tines off one side the leaking side there is a rubber seal with a e ring under it that i assume if i could get the e ring off i could get a new seal and stop the leak
any ideas on removing e clip got one of those tools to release it but it is recesed under rubbeer
and while not come off it seems to bind in the hole on the seal housing (was able to pry rubber out
the other problem is that the wire that the handle pulls is ceased
and i need a few parts how do i find a parts list for this model

sounds like the shaft is either bent,or the inside diameter is worn and the shaft tube needs to be replaced.

You've got the right serial number - it appears you've got one of the older Tuffy's. I'd suggest keeping an eye on Ebay for the manual you're looking for. I find them out there with some regularity. You can't get them from a dealer anymore because this Tuffy was sold by Troy Bilt before they went bankrupt and MTD bought the assets.

If it is the shaft and not the belt, you will probably have to take the tynes off the axle and clean and lube them. It may also be the differential, I would check that first. Good luck...Lee

If it's as old as mine (circa 1976), it's stamped on the casting right below the T-handle that allows the handle bars to pivot (also the gear case fill cap)
