get a12 volt test light remove negitive cable from battery attach clip on test light to negitive cable removed from battery. touch other end of test light to negitive side of battery if light is on something in car is pulling power if light is off everything is turned off you can test this if light is off by turning on the headlights the test light should stay lit until you turn off headlight switch. If light is on when fistr connecting to battery turn every thing off in car or disconnect anything includeing trunk or under hood lights one at a time until test light is no longer lit. if this is not the problem load test battery.
your rooter must have a reset button on it. Considering that there was a red light on, it sounds like it is off rather than dead. There are only a couple things to try, the reset I mentioned, and the other is a power cycle. Disconnect everything the input line, the power cord and any thing else that is connected, and wait 5 minutes to reboot and connect everything.
The flashing red indicates that either the fileter cover or the lamp cover is not installed correctly. If both are installed properly and secured, the unit will require service.

I've had this happen a number of times with my receiver. This trick from the Troubleshooting guide in the owner's manual usually does the trick:
To reset
If an unusual condition in the display window or malfunction
occurs, reset the unit as follows.
1 Press the POWER button to turn off the power.
2 Press the POWER button while pressing the ENTER button.
Everything stored in memory after purchase is canceled.
If the power cannot be turned off in step 1 because of a
malfunction, reset by disconnecting the AC cord and carry out
step 2.
