Just bought brand new Cobra 29 ltd Black Chrome new antenna new mount and cable. Everything new and getting red lights on both Ant and RX/TX. Tried the other antenna I had Wilson 2000 same thing. Tried using the cable already installed on truck and only RX/TX is red my guess is it's the cable that need to be replaced just wanted to ask someone else. But I still have the red RX/TX to deal with any help????

Re: Red RX/TX and red ANT light on my CB
Well, first hand ,some cobra radio,s have red some have green RX/TX lights, but are you modulating? Some green lights turn red. What is your standing Wave on the antenna,s? You need to check it and the output of the radio. To do this you need a watt or field strenth meter. Can get one at Radio Shack. Your standing Wave is ok as long as it is below a 2. That has to be done on the antenna. ..hope this helps...

I see two possible problems. First, with a magnetic antenna it is difficult to get the proper ground for the antenna. Make sure the magnetic base is clean as well as where you place it. Second, try running your power lead DIRECTLY to the battery and not using the cigarette lighter. Hope it helps.
HELLO STAN FIRST HAS THE RADIO BEEN PEAKED AND TUNED? SECOND IS THE INTERIOR LIGHT IN YOUR PICK UP RIGHT BELOW YOUR ANTENNA,IF SO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM BUT EASY FIX THE WIRING GOING TO THE LIGHT ACTS LIKE AN EXTRA ANTENNA CAUSING YOUR ANTENNA TO RESONATE TO YOUR RADIO CAUSING THE A W I LIGHT TO COME ON MOVE YOU ANTENNA BACK A LITTLE FUTHER AND SHOULD BE GOODif you want to get a bettter antenna get a willson 500 mag mount far better
if a mod has been done to the cobra 29 (all 29,s)the light will come on just find vr6 audio the radio as it comes on adjust vr6 untill it goes away,,,,always trust your watt meter(s.w.r scale)over the flashing light its really easy to do it beats paying a shop $10-$15
This is a common misunderstanding when it comes to communications equipment. You don't tune the antenna to the radio, but rather you tune the antenna to the vehicle. the vehicle is the ground plane for your antenna system.
With that said You will need an SWR Meter between your antenna and Radio. follow the instructions for your meter for calibrating the meter and follow the instructions for your antenna for adjusting the length.
One of the lights is marked RX/TX. This light normally turns red when you press the mike key. The other light indicates a bad SWR if internal circuits are properly aligned. If someone has turned the pot which sets the level at which the light comes on, it may come on when you press the mike key. Check your SWR with an external meter to see if you have problems in the antenna system. The way I set this light in my shop is to put a 150 ohm resistor on the antenna connector and set the control so that the ANT light just comes on.
The red light on rx is fine, it's supposed to change from green to red. The red light on your antenna means you have a swr issue, something in your antenna system is not right. You need to go to a reputable CB shop and have them check your swr.
the tx/rx liight is green when your radio is recieving signals and turns red when you are sending signals. the ANT light is red when your SWR is too high (over 3)
1. turn the knob labeled swr cal all the way counter clockwise
2. set the rf swr cal switch to the CAL position
3 key up the mic and hold it while you rotate the swr cal knob until the needle reaches the swr cal postition
4. set the swr cal rf switch to the swr position
5. key up the mic while on chanel one (record the the number)
6. switch to chanel 40 key up the mic (record the number)
if the number on chanel one is lower than the number on chanel 40 then your antenna is too long.
